Just for you Dandelione_Wine!!

Best song on the album has got to be Hot For Teacher.

Hey hey!!

Thanks wabrams!

1984 was probably the first time I heard Van Halen or new who they were. Jump is what started it all for me.

I’d agree - Hot for Teacher. The drum intro and then the guitars taking off, wow! Blow me away.

I have a secret spot in my heart though for Top Jimmy and Drop Dead Legs. Love 'em.

The video for Teacher was hilarious!

SO who’s your favorite: Van Halen or Van Haggar?

Ya know, I’m really divided on that.

I really didn’t know the original Van Halen. Just when I got into them it became Van Hagar. I listened to that through high school and college. As a friend of mine says, “good times”.

But I really love listening to the old stuff. It seemed more raw or daring or something.

How about you?

How about Van Halen III? 😛

Panama for me.

Halen was so awesome. I stopped listening to them post David Lee Roth. Sami Hagar blows chunks!

ROFL:rotfl:

Had to peek, and although i personally do not listen to this music…i know it alllll, my two brothers loved it, and then they passed it onto my son…

But you had me laughing, as i knew everything you meant, and some more…

Sami Hagar blows chunks!..lol

I like the original stuff better.
As for Van Halen III…well that’s just deep fried cr*p in my book.

Isn’t that the one Tipper Gore complained about?
Yup. Apparently, she let her kids watch MTV all the time because she assumed it was jus music. Another glaring example of people using tv as the babysitter then getting angry at the entertainment business when it’s something they don’t want their children to see.

I remember when Van Halen shot to fame. I was a 16 year old sophomore in high school. VH was pretty much a band for the stoner guys back then.
We girls could never get into the whole runnin’ with the devil thing.
And David Lee Roth was kind of a perv… yuck. Men in tights? :nope:
I was a huge Sammy fan back then, still am - sorry guys. I loved the Montrose Montrose album. I bet none of you even remember that. 😛
I saw Sammy AT Cabo Wabo cantina in Cabo San Lucas about 2 years ago for the 2nd time. Me and my best girlfriend were dancin’ on the tables. It was wild. Only a few hundred people present and the house was rockin.
Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead was there jammin’ with Sammy at Sammy’s place.

I am SO jealous! Wow, that has to be awesome! That’s one of the things on my “Things to do before I die”-list.

I saw the tour where Sammy toured with David. It was fun. Sammy was WAY better. Unfortunately my city was in the rotation where Sammy opened for David. Ah well.

Yeah. I had turned off the radio when that came out. I didn’t want to hear any songs on the radio. I wanted to just hear the whole CD at once.

The night it came out (Best Buy did one of those midnight releases) I picked it up after work. I came home, stuck it in the CD player and listened. My first thought was “Van Halen is dead”. I was so disappointed. It was like a turning moment in my life where I felt like a part of my past had died. Like I was old or something.

In retrospect, there was some good stuff on there. Things that I find occasionally popping into my head. But I haven’t listened to it in years! Funny is I was doing some cleaning this past weekend and thought I’d put it in and listen to it since it’s been a long time - and I couldn’t find it! 🙂 Ah well. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be. 😉

Favorite Van Halen song is, without a doubt, *Ice Cream Man.

*While I never liked Hagar with Van Halen, I liked *I Can’t Drive 55. *Great tune.

Eddie Van Halen is the reason I started playing guitar back in the day. He’s the man! I wanted to get him to play at my ordination but it just never happened. 😛

I always felt that an electric guitar playing through a wall of Marshall’s sounds a bit like a pipe organ at full throttle! Yeah!!! 👍

I actually smashed an old junked guitar (ala Jimi Hendrix) during a homily at a “youth” Mass to graphicaly demonstrate transubstantion. I didn’t light it on fire though. 😃 Maybe I should have…you know…the fire of the Holy Spirit and all!

Interesting tidbit of info: Eddie Van Halen wrote and recorded the guitar part for Michael Jackson’s *Beat It. *

Indeed he did, and, he didn’t get paid a dime! He just did it as a favor if I recall. He’s also Catholic…(at least born and raised Catholic.)
