Wearing flannel pj bottoms to church

Just when I think I’ve seen it all, yesterday I saw a teen boy wearing pj bottoms to church.

I realize it’s fashionable for teens to wear their pj pants out and about in public. :o Though I must be too old to understand why they would want to…

But to church??? :nope:
 
Awhile ago I saw an ADULT woman (about 30 years old) wearing flannel plaid pj bottoms to Mass WITH her fuzzy slippers.

Yeah, I’ve seen it too. A teenager though, not a grown woman or anything. (with the slippers?? It’s not like you’re making a midnight run to Wal Mart. It’s mass, people! Geez.)
 
I will admit, there have been times recently where I’ve considered wearing my comfy sweatpants or jammie bottoms, but I’m 30 weeks PG, and sometimes real clothes don’t fit very comfortably…but I haven’t actually done it…I figure I can sacrifice comfort for an hour of worship…

maybe he was recovering from the flu or something?

I think we are becoming a nation of sloppy slugs. I have a friend who moved here from Poland 6 years ago and she said the biggest surprise for her was seeing how “casual” we dress for mass. She said in Poland, even the very poor had one nice outfit they wore to mass. She said it didn’t need to be new - just clean and dressier than normal to show the proper reverence for the mass.

And here we are in the US… most of us with more than enough money to buy nice clothes & we show up in our PJ’s. I wonder if they are wearing the PJ’s they slept in… or do they shower & then put a clean pair of PJ’s back on??

I have to admit though… if I have to choose between young guy in PJ bottoms or young girl with belly hanging out… I’ll pick the PJ’s. Both make me feel 😦 though.

I have to agree.
It’s too cold here in NY for the midriffs but I am sure they are coming back to church soon as the weather warms up. 😦

Perhaps this woman is suffering from a Mental Disorder.

Clearly the Teenagers are not showing respect and their parents need to be put to task.

However, an Adult acting like this needs to be afforded a bit of probing before judgement. - It just doesn’t add up.

OK you all caught me…we had a short notice mass after our girls volleyball team won a game in sectionals and I was wearing my St. Malachy’s plaid flannel jammie bottoms to the game…I promise I didn’t do it on purpose!!! …And I was so proud I found their plaid in mens flannel jammie bottoms…now I am crushed…just kidding!

Unfortunately, no, she is not. I must admit that she used to be a good friend of mine. :o
 
Well, I decided to speak up at my church since I am on parish council. I would really like Father to address the issue, maybe in the weekly bulletin or such like that. In a way that does not point the finger, yet make it clear there have been problems with attire and the Lord is deserving of more than midriffs and jammies.

Tomorrow is a council meeting so maybe we can touch upon this I hope.
 
Not only is that disrespectful but totally wrong. Where did she think she was going. Some people just don’t think. :tsktsk:

Maybe more of the attitude, " God doesn’t care what I worship Him in - so long as I am attending mass." 😦

yup…you are getting it…
Could have been worse…he or she might have been wearing a teddy or some other scanty thing. In which case he or she would have been escorted out of church. :yup:

While on vacation out in the LA/Disneyland area, I went to Mass at a parish-- can’t remember the name now-- but it was getting towards summer and the priest’s homily was on modest dress.

He talked about the sin of causing another to have immoral thoughts due to your skimpy dress (aimed at girls in low cut, tight, or skimpy shirts/skirts), the lack of reverence for the Sacrament, etc.

It was a reminder lecture that those who are improperly dressed will not be allowed to enter the sactuary. They had signs on the door and everything. Seems like it’s a regular thing there.

THAT was cool, a priest who stands up and tells it how it is!!!
 
I do not wear jammies and slippers to Mass. Ever. That’s just too far, even for me.

I DO wear jammies, bathrobe and slippers to pick up my DH with the granddaughters from one of his teaching gigs, who also wear jammies, bathrobes and slippers (and winter coats when necessary). He teaches a marthon class that night, we have one car, and it’s easier to get the girls ready for hte next day and then bed in one fell swoop.

To save on heating bills in our parish church, the girls in the school are allowed to wear those pajama-looking pants UNDER THEIR UNIFORM JUMPERS OR SKIRTS, WITH THEIR WINTER COATS. Nobody is allowed to serve wearing those, however.
 
There is a parish near by that has a modesty dress code. They have large men’s button up shirts and wrap around skirts for women who are dressed too skimpily. The ushers (poor guys) have to enforce it. I’m not sure how the pastor prepared the congregation for the implementation of the policy. I’m sure there was a lot of communication on it.

I hear that it was well received and had a beneficial effect on the parish.
