If I might ask Jharek, are you aware of public feeling in Northern Ireland (i.e. polls or anecdotal)? What is the general viewpoint over there concerning abortion? Do you think they will go the way of the Republic?
Kind of ironic that the part of Ireland still under British sovereignty is the one where there has been the last hold-out of religiosity, given the situation in the Republic and mainland Britain.
I read today that at Stormont, a majority of politicians do not favour the radical law changes now proposed in their neighbouring country. So, that at least is one significant difference with the South - I just wonder where the actual body politic, the voters, are at. Are they pro-choice or do a significant number agree with their elected representatives in parliament?
I’m assuming that they probably back reform, unfortunately, although I’ve read polling data in the past indicating that a majority of NI voters support abortion legalization in the anomalous cases of rape, incest, threat to mother’s life or well-being and fetal abnormality which means they won’t survive past birth, but not for abortion otherwise.
