What are some of the main reasons that people are attracted to the Protestant faith?

See?

Animus.

And ignorance of what an annulment is.

Catechesis before you leave, HH. That’s vital.
Nonsense. We both know what the score is. That’s how Catholics like Ted Kennedy could get married multiple times with the blessing of their denomination.

1500 dollars.
Ah. That was indeed ridiculously high. For some reason. Not the usual cost, to be sure.

Most annulments cost about $400.

Sure it is. That’s why I know Catholics married 2 or 3 times, with the blessing of their denomination.
Nope.

If they had previous marriages, and their spouses are alive, they cannot be married in the CC.

How about right here?

Clearly, there was animus when you left.

Just sayin’. 🤷
Yes, absolutely, a year and a half ago, I hated my former church with a passion.

Thankfully, working with my pastor I have let go of that.

Wow $1500 is a lot of money to me. In any case I must say the patience you’ve shown on this thread while your understanding of Catholic teaching has been so questioned, has been amazing.

Well, he clearly limned a great example of his poor catechesis with his erroneous claim about the Catholic Church “not believing” in divorce.

I only hope that his next comment isn’t, “And she declares that the children of annulled marriages are called ‘illegitimate’ by the CC.”

The diocese of Green Bay charges $1500 for annulments here. But they almost never charge it. In the case of my wife, they waived it altogether.

I know what your denomination says and what it does are very different things. On paper it all looks good but in real life they are charging folks exorbitant amounts of cash for annulments and even baptisms.

On paper it says they can never charge for a sacrament.

In real life they were trying to charge me 150 dollars for to baptize my daughter. When I asked why the charge, it was because I had stopped volunteering (I used to be a lector and KOFC). Since I was “giving anything back to the parish”, I would have to pay for my daughters sacrament of baptism. I said I had stopped volunteering because my other two daughters that I adopted were special needs and I need to spend all my time taking care of them. They grudgingly agreed to lower the charge to a mere 50 dollars, generous isn’t it?

Know a few years later Catholic apologists are constantly asking my NOT to look at what their church actually DOES rather what it SAYS. I know why.

Thankfully a local Lutheran minister agreed to baptize my daughter entirely free of charge.

Freely you have received so freely give.

Just to proclaim to the world: The Catholic Church cannot change the Word of God, even if it would make it more palatable to say, “Being married to an alcoholic nullifies the vows one made before God. That is the kind thing to do”

To wit:
Ted and Vicki were married on July 3, 1992 in a private** civil ceremony** in Ted’s home in McLean, Virginia. They had about 30 relatives at the wedding. Vicki and Ted had a brief honeymoon in Vermont. marriage.about.com/od/politics/a/tedkennedy.htm

It’s adultery.

Not our words. But Christ’s.

There you go.

Not cost prohibitive.

And sometimes, even waived.

What a great Church we have here.

Just sayin’.

Thanks.

Yes that is a huge amount of money for me. But on paper its so cheap and they would never, ever charge for a sacrament. I know better though.

How generous, they only sometimes charge 1500 dollars for that piece of paper.

$1500 is a lot. But let’s remember, too, that an annulment is not a sacrament and is not something that is guaranteed. In addition, in order for an annulment to take place, it takes actual employees of the diocese to handle the processing, time, costs, etc. of handling an annulment case. Those employees have to earn a living, too. They aren’t clergy.

I don’t get set charges for Baptism. PRMerger shakes her head but I just looked at the website of the Catholic parish around the corner and they require a minimum “donation” of $50 to perform the Baptism and parents must be be using envelopes for their offertory for 6 mos prior.

LOL. Indeed that’s what it says on paper. I know better though because it happened to me.

Again the faith as written on paper is different than how it’s actually practiced.
A priest cannot deny an active member of the parish the sacraments. What I mean by “active member” is simply going to Church every Sunday.

The parish council might try to insist on fees for things (which is because many Catholics do a terrible job of tithing), and some of those rates might be high. But if one cannot truly afford to pay, then the priest will do them for free.

The question is what does free get you… Will free get you a private mass with 50 family members for a Baptism or Wedding… ? No. But free will allow you to receive baptism publicly (either part of a regular mass or after mass) or a small wedding in the Chapel or rectory. The parishes have bills to pay, and need to raise money some how. But when people cannot afford to pay, they cannot be denied. Now, I will acknowledge that I think sometimes the Parish Councils take some things too far and that Pastors should sometimes take power back. The Church is not a democracy and the local parish should not be either.

God Bless.
