Wasn’t sure where to post this topic.

I know of a little Catholic baptized girl I babysit who is three years old turning four on October 22ond who is constantly thinking and asking her mother questions about God far more than a norm.

For a girl her age she’s exceptionally intelligent for her age. I think many adults would rationalize this and pass it off as pure cuteness.

She’s the first one to remind those at the table at meal times to pray thanking God. Often she ask questions about God beyond the norm of childhood curiosity and her mother in search of her in the home will see her alone kneeling in prayer in her bedroom quite unexpectedly.

Her mother a single Catholic Mom does pray with her at her bedside before going to bed at night. Her mother doesn’t discourage any of this but does think its odd or possibly a fixation with the child. My thoughts are let her be naturally if she wants to pray alone. Maybe its an over-reaction of her mother, that I don’t know but babysitting her myself on a number of occasions I witnessed the child praying on her own with hands folded on her knees with eyes closed and her looking very serene.

Her mother was victimized by forced rape and had a previous common law relationship that broke up, but now living with her mother.

Any thoughts appreciated.

One would observe and judge as time goes on…(difficult to say what to suggest practically)

Some children – have even been given the gift of infused contemplation at a very young age…such as 4 years old…

Not saying she has this gift --but just noting that God has decided in at times freely bring certain Children into ways of holiness and prayer beyond that of many adults…

“let the Children come to me”

Unless you turn and become like a child…

etc

She loves God, loves to pray and wants to talk about it, why would that would be odd? Why should she be discouraged? She sounds sweet and adorable. I will be praying for her. This reminds me of Little Nellie of Holy God. 🙂

Little Nellie was the first person who came to mind here as well. 🙂

My first thought was St Therese of Lisieux.

She should be encouraged.

This little one is a great, and exceptionally wonderful, gift from God to her mother who has obviously had a difficult time of it.

Peace

And St. Rose of Lima, Peru.:)🙂

I see this in my little 2 and a half year old sometimes. Although she is very young, her faith humbles me. Her love of Jesus and her kindness really astound me sometimes. I say, encourage it! Pray for all little ones, that they may come to know and love our Lord. It is a wonderful, beautiful thing!

What do I think?

She’s Blessed.

Thank God. May He keep her and continue to bless her.

Many children have powerful quasi-mystical and emotional experiences. I remember as a child I would have nightmares that were many times more powerful than anything that I have had in years, as well as mysterious dreams and intuitions. If I had these now I would probably be pretty scared!
I have met many people who have had this in common with me. My view on this is that as children we do not have the protection of our reason and our experience, so if we are particularly sensitive by nature, we are much more exposed to emotions and spiritual experiences.

I would also advise to keep this child well informed about the sacramental life and the love of Jesus-Christ, before she gets exposed to the world. I was not very well taught, and so I found a lot of my answers elsewhere – many of which turned out to be very un-Christian. It took me years of searching and a powerful experience to come fully back. Since this child has an inquisitive nature, I think it’ll be important to give her good answers (since she is smart she will smell bad ones). Some people learn to assume that the Church doesn’t have any answers when they aren’t satisfied with one they get.

This little girl sounds very blessed in any case.

Robert
