I love reading in to these people and thier work. What i would like to know is, can you provide me some links on all the very best, “Free” information from, catholic writers, philosophers, and apolegetics. I have recieved some info from peter kreeft, which is good!, but id like some more! I dont mind if its augustine or some morden day genius! it doesnt matter if its past or present, as long as thier “Catholic!” 🙂 Thank you for your time God bless 🙂

The best of the modern Catholic writers/philosophers, some of whose writings you can get free is G. K. Chesterton. Many other modern Catholic writers and philosophers were inspired by him including people like Fulton Sheen.

Heck yeah, G.K. all the way! Dude was brilliant!

Hillaire Belloc was from his era too.

Lesee… You got Augustine, Ansel, and Aquinas for the past.
Peter Kreeft is an excellent modern day Catholic philosopher.

Cardinal Henri Neuman (sp?) and Dietrich Von Hildebrand were also brilliant (late 1800s and mid 1900’s respectively i do believe)

All these authors/philosphers would literally last you a life time.

Mordocai!

I absolutely love Gabriel Marcel, the Catholic Existentialist. I’ve heard great things about Thomas Merton though I’ve never read anything by him.

Those are of the least known (from what I know) Catholic philosophers and thinkers of the past. Definately check out Augustine and Aquinas.

As for the present…Although he was Anglican, C.S. Lewis is absolutely stunning. If it weren’t for this man, I wouldn’t have become Christian. He has influenced me in many ways, and his theology is as Catholic as any modern Catholic theologian. It was also by reading Lewis that I came to know G.K. Chesterton, and as soon as I had started reading his works (namely Orthodoxy, and The Everlasting Man) I came to fall in love with the faith of my childhood: The Roman Catholic Church.

We cannot have a list of great Catholic philosophers and not mention John Paul II.

Theology of the Body
Faith and Reason (and all the encyclicals)
Love and Responsibility

CSL if only he took the last step! GKC can’t get enough of him.

I haven’t read von Balthazar or de Lubac yet…too many others to get through but they’re on my list.

in XT.
