Will You Shop at Stores Which DO NOT Say "MERRY CHRISTMAS"?

I will. I understand that Christmas is not the only holiday celebrated this time of year, and as secular instutitions, stores are trying to be sensitive to those celebrating other holidays.
 
Yes, I will. I don’t only shop at the big chains stores but also at local ones whose owners may or may not be Christian. For example, we regularly order chow mien at a little local place whose owners are Buddhists. Should I no longer buy chow mien from them because they aren’t necessarily going to greet me with “Merry Christmas?” :eek: No one who owns a store, no matter what kind, is obligated to greet people with any sort of holiday greeting unless they want to. This is America and that is their right, which I uphold as both a Catholic and an American. 👍
 
Although I’ll look for a store that does to support them, I will shop at one that doesn’t

Yes, I will shop at stores which don’t say Merry Christmas.

I will also shop at stores which don’t say ‘This is the day the Lord has made’ at any other time of the year.

I don’t think stores have a responsibility to mention anything about the season or the day or whatever. (I thought they put up those signs as a benefit to themselves, not to us).
 
Of course I would shop there. The solution is very simple. If the person who scans your purchases says “Have a Happy Holiday,” just say, “And a Merry Christmas to you, too!” It’s a no-brainer.
 
Yes, I will… though they may not be impressed with how much I buy. I’m not a big shopper. I’m making most of my gifts this year. Ah yes, the benefits of artistry. 😃

The birth of Christ is the reason everyone is given the day off on December 25th!

Right now many stores are using “Seasons Greetings” and “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”. It’s sure funny how the stores use “Seasons Greetings” and “Happy Holidays” before Christmas and then the day after Christmas these same stores advertise as our “After CHRISTMAS Sale”. Seems to me the stores only use the word “Christmas” when they want to make a buck. Why do Catholics (Christians) put up with this? Has not consumerism/materialism gone too far?

I also find it funny how stores advertise the “Christmas Tree” now as the “Holiday Tree”. I going to walk up to the salespeople at these stores and ask them where I can buy a “Labor Day Tree”.

For those stores which use the words “Seasons Greetings”. Why not use those same words for the entire year. The year goes by and brings us different seasons so I think the stores which use “Seasons Greetings” should just keep up these signs all year round.

Last, does anyone know where I can find the “Holiday Bunny” and “Holiday Eggs” at Easter time. It’s time Catholics and Christians begin to stand up for Christ in “CHRISTMAS”!!
 
Why would anyone be saying, “Merry Christmas”? Christmas isn’t until December 24th. Right now, it’s Advent. Therefore, “Happy Advent!” or something similar is most appropriate.

I canceled my sears master card yesterday and told them that if they wanted to jump on the “take christ out of CHRISTmas” bandwaggon than I am going to jum on the “take sears out of my shopping list” band waggon and a couple of my friends did the same. so I’m hopeing we’ll changer their minds. I love sears, but I wanted to let them know how I felt. that’s the only way we’ll change their minds is if we hit them where it hurts. they aren’t affraid to make tones and tones of money off Christmas. they can take their holiday trees and…well never mind.

NEW YORK — The word “Christmas,” nearly absent in marketing by major retailers in recent years, has been quietly revived by some stores. Retail expert Jim Lucas says they are responding to consumers’ desire to make the holidays more personal — whether they observe Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa.

“They are saying this has become very commercial and they want to reclaim the holiday season and make it relevant,” says Lucas, head of strategic planning at ad agency Draft Worldwide.

Chains also may be responding to a push by groups such as The Catholic League and American Family Association (AFA) against a generic “winter holiday.”

The AFA cited 10 retailers (Kroger, Dell, Target, OfficeMax, Walgreens, Sears, Staples, Lowe’s, J.C. Penney and Best Buy) for omitting Christmas in ads. It urges shoppers to go where Christmas is recognized.

I think I’ll go to these stores as often as I can. When I catch someone slip and say Merry Christmas, I’ll sue them.

Just kidding. Although I’d probably get more attention than if I complained that they don’t say Merry Christmas!

How come it’s always someone elses’s rights getting violated and never mine?
 
I work at a store that has us answering phones HAPPY HOLIDAYS. I just change it a little:bounce: . I say HAPPY HOLY DAYS. I think this covers the situation quite well.

The store also has Merry Christmas signs. So as of right this moment I am ok with their decision.
