Would it be O.K. to shred a religious picture?

Various religious orders or organizations keep mailing us, solliciting donations. They usually include cards or pictures of Our Lord or Our Lady. We can’t possibly keep all this stuff. I don’t want to throw these pictures into the trash with all the other garbage, and not having a fireplace, I have no place to burn them. I do have a paper shredder–would shredding these pictures be a respectful way to dispose of them? They’re not blessed.

Well, if it’s not blessed, then it’s not problem to shred it.
HOWEVA 🙂
I would probably burn it, because you never know if it WAS blessed at some point. But also, it seems a more fitting way to dispose of such things. (I have the same problem, constantly getting sent things…)

God Bless!

They’re not really holy cards. They’re Mass cards and such–like “If you donate your loved one will be remembered in a novena of Masses…” and on the cover of the card is a picture of the Sacred Heart, or Our Lady. They’re not blessed objects, and I have no place to burn them.

I give all that stuff to one of the sisters for her CCD classes. The paper products [including old calendars] are used for cut and paste projects. The hardware - medals etc. - are prizes for various activities. She has an endless need.
