Patricia Bosworth, the renowned author who penned several biographies of Hollywood’s biggest stars after abandoning an acting career, is dead at 86.

Bosworth died Thursday in New York City from pneumonia brought on by coronavirus, her stepdaughter Fia Hatsav told The New York Times.

One of her most notable early movie roles was that of a hesitant postulant who discontinues her vocation in the 1959 drama “The Nun’s Story.”

I believe this is a very Catholic movie from the late 1950s and a critically acclaimed movie with Audrey Hepburn. Patricia Bosworth was in it too. I have problems remembering exact details on her role but it’s a realistic movie, I know early in the movie, they are in Africa and then, I believe the movie ends up with them facing the Nazis. They are Belgian Nuns.

And apparently, she was a writer too.

Great movie.

Praying for the repose of her soul, may God bless her.

I liked the book but didn’t care for the ending. I thought she should have stayed in the convent.

In real life, the nun on whom the book was based left the convent and then later met the author of the book and the two of them lived together for the next 40 years till they died.

Regarding Patricia Bosworth, I just realized she wrote the biography of Diane Arbus that I read way way back in college. It was well written.

Eternal rest grant unto Patricia Bosworth, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace.
May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

There was quite a trend with novices wrestling with decisions to leave the convent or not in the films of the 40s and 50s. I don’t doubt that novices had these struggles in real life, but sometimes those subplots get almost as tedious as the ones about priests having similar struggles.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
