I didn’t realize there were protests. Sometimes protesting can work to your advantage. I know for a fact at my old college there were many young men who went to see the Vagina Monologues just because we protested it. They’ll never make that mistake again. They sure thought they were rebels. I’m sure being in a theatre of sensitive men and rabid women shouting the ‘c’ word taught them much about doing things because someone tells you not to.I just joined today, and this is my first post. I hate to start off on a negative note but…
“The Weinsteins don’t get it do they?”
Unfortunately, they get it exactly. “Black Christmas” is yet another bad horror movie that would have come and gone like all the others, until people started protesting, thus giving it national publicity. We have to learn how to pick our battles – especially when faced with people who try to be deliberately offensive in the name of profit. Ignore movies like this and they will go away. Protest them, and more people will go see them.
I have to stand up for Bill Donohue. Just because people go see these movies to protest the protestors, doesn’t mean we should just let this stuff happen without blinking. We are being persecuted. Comedy Central is showing a day of sacrilege on Christmas, an extravaganza of anti-Catholic and general anti-Christian movies and TV reruns. Bill Donohue is great at pointing out the hypocrisy of a country whose media won’t print an political cartoon featuring the prophet Mohammed, but will actively mock one of the holiest days on the Christian calendar. Diane Sawyer did her “Pope Joan” “investigation” last year to coincide with either Christmas or Easter. The world hates us and i’m glad Bill Donohue is out there trying to wake people up to their evil, although i’m not sure calling the South Park guys “little whores” is necessarily the best way to live the faith.jkeenley is exactly right. Bill Donohue is basically the Catholic Jesse Jackson.
Digitonomy, the Holy Father has warned, as did his predecessor, that the world is overwhelmed with moral relativism. And the sad fact is that too many of us are using our free will to choose evil – thus making the world a tragic place in which to live.jkeenley is exactly right. Bill Donohue is basically the Catholic Jesse Jackson.
I agree – and I didn’t have Bill Donahue in mind. Part of the reason for his success is he knows how to pick his battles, and he knows when he’s deliberately being goaded simply for the sake of publicity.I have to stand up for Bill Donohue. Jesus said that we are blessed when we’re persecuted for his sake. He said turn the other cheek. He didn’t say pretend you’re not being beaten so others will lose interest in joining the beat down. We have to confront evil when we see it and meet it with love. Bill Donohue at least has the first part down. Do you?
I don’t agree that Donohue makes sound judgements regarding what is evil and malice, as opposed to what is merely ignorance (willful or invincible). And you are right to imply that Donohue doesn’t have the second part down.He said turn the other cheek. Perhaps it will do you well to read this statement by the holy father. Think before you talk.I don’t agree that Donohue makes sound judgements regarding what is evil and malice, as opposed to what is merely ignorance (willful or invincible). And you are right to imply that Donohue doesn’t have the second part down.
Donohue’s eagerness to get in the boxing ring with perceived opponents appeals to some Catholics including some posters here, just as Jesse Jackson’s antics appeal to a segment of the African American population. As with Jackson, I don’t think Donohue’s methods serve his cause, which is ours, very well.
