Nothing new but a good reminder. Most of this info is in the guidelines “The Order Of Christian Funerals”.
I haven’t experienced secular music at a funeral mass in years (other than a classical piece now and then ) but sometimes the “eulogies” or “words of remembrance” can make people uncomfortable and feel awkward. That part should be allowed only at the Vigil service (wake). Or at least the “words” should be reviewed by the priest before the funeral for appropriateness and length.
That being my belief we walk a fine line(those of us involved with liturgy) in what is the pastoral approach. Often funeral masses involve families who are not “churched”. We want them to understand and feel consoled and welcomed with the hope that they will return for Sunday mass. Sometimes, bending a rule, maybe just a little, can have a positive effect. But again…it’s a fine line. Also, parishes should have brochures with their own guidelines as well as the rules of the Church available to all…long before a death happens. Maybe pass them out in November…the month we as Catholics remember our deceased loved ones.
