This is a question from our scripture study on Corinthians. Any help would be appreciated.

Where did St. Paul get his teaching in 1 Corinthians 11:11-12?

11 Woman is not independent of man or man of woman in the Lord. 12 For just as woman came from man, so man is born of woman; but all things are from God.

Shalom…

Sounds to me like St. Paul was reflecting on the accounts of creation in Genesis, especially Genesis 1:27; 2:21-23; 3:20; 4:1.

In commenting on this verse, A Commentary on the New Testament (The Catholic Biblical Association: 1942), page 469, says in part:
“…man was created to the image and likeness of God (Gen 1, 27) and woman was made from man. . . . Eve came from God through Adam, man comes from God through his mother.”

As I recall, St. Paul got all his teachings from God and the apostles. The Catholic Church declared Scripture inerrant based on Tradition. So this was well established in the Christian (i.e Catholic) comunity before Scripture was even written.
