“But he (God) slew of the men of Bethsames, because they had seen the ark of the Lord: and he slew of the people seventy men, and fifty thousand of the common people. And the people lamented, because the Lord(God) had smitten the people with a great slaughter.” -1 Sam 6:19

Anti-Christians use this verse as an evidence that God has a heavy hand… How can i refute this verse, why did God killed them for the reason that they have seen the Ark

Hi Daraku,

My bible says that 70 men died because they did not rejoice when they saw the ark. It was an insult to God. As for the part about 50, 000, it is not part of the sacred text; it is a “gloss”, a marginal comment that crept into the text. The Septuagint omits it.
