Peace be with you all,

What else can anyone give me to offer as proof-text for the Church being the ground of all truth? I found this to be most interesting when conversing with our Protestant Brethren but is there anything else?

But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 1 Timothy 3:15

Peace, Love and Blessings

How about Matthew 18:15-18 where it talks about correcting your neighbor. Mainly the last part, “If he ignores them, refer it to the church. If he ignores even the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. I assure you, whatever you declare bound on earth shall be held bound in heaven, and whatever you declare loosed on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

How can you tell anyone anything when they assume you’re wrong before you speak and anything you say is a Catholic lie? Who refuse to study history and believe only what they want from their fellow protestants?😦

I am faced with this daily. We even see it often on this forum.

There are ever-widening circles of applicable verses. Often discussion of these issues devolves back to “who has authority?” to lead. Here are some verses that I have found useful:

Mt 16:18> Jesus: I will build my church (not “write my Bible”)
Mt 16:18> The gates of hell shall not prevail against the church
Mt 18:17> Jesus: church has power to discipline
Mt 18:18> Jesus: church has power to set rules
Mt 23:2-3> obey the office (not individuals; not Scripture)
Mt 28:19-20> The Great Commission (make disciples w/o Bible)
Lk 10:16> Jesus: apostles can speak for me
Jn 14:16> Spirit guides apostles to all truth
Jn 16:13> Spirit guides apostles to all truth
Jn 17:18; 20:21> Father =>Jesus => apostles
Act 2:42> doctrine, community, sacred rite
Eph 2:20> apostles + Jesus = church foundation
Eph 3:56> Spirit revealed truth to apostles
Eph 5:25-26> Jesus loved, died for, the church (not Scripture)
Eph 5:29> Jesus nourishes/cherishes the church (not Scripture)
1 Tim 3:15> church is foundation of truth (not Scripture)
Heb 13:17> obey church leaders (not Scripture)

…What else can anyone give me to offer as proof-text for the Church being the ground of all truth?..
How about history? The fact that there was NO Bible for the frst 400 years after Jesus rose from the dead? The fact the Catholic Church wrote, cannonised, preserved and declared inspired the Holy Scripture? The fact Christians did not need a Bible for the first 400 years to be saved and still don’t to this day? The fact I don’t have to ever read one word in the Bible to be saved? The fact Jesus never said to write or read a Bible? The fact that ALL Bibles have come from Catholic Tradition? ALL protestants that read the Bible and believe in it believe in Catholic Tradition - some protestant Bibles just skew the truth a bit.

When protestant clergy study history they flock home to the Catholic Church like the prodigal son home to his father.
