I encourage fellow Christians to add to this list things they like about Islam.

I also ask any Muslim to join with me and list some things you like about Catholics.

Positive responses only, please.

Peace be with all of you,
RyanL

Most excellent list Ryan.

I would maybe add:
  1. They agree that Jesus was born of a virgin and did not sin in His lifetime.

Hi RyanL,

Sorry to say that the Muslims do not worship the same God as Christians worship. The Muslims believe in a god that is not the Triune God.

Ric, if you are Catholic, you are mistaken:

From the CCC (Cathcism of the Catholic Church):
841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”

the CCC is not speaking infalliably on this issue. as to whether or not muslims worship the same God as us, this is a theological speculation and not an infalliable position. this is clear enough from the fact that this position has been changed in the past thousand years. until Vatican II, the Church considered islam to be a diabolical religion and there was never an indication that ther god was our God. Many popes even said otherwise. so we are left with this then: if the Church before Vatican II was wrong in its position as you seem to say, then the Church does not speak infalliably since it cannot change a stance. given the choice between the opinions of the Church for thirty years or the Tradition of the Church for a thousand, i will go with Tradition.

Agreed I will side with tradition over fads. Inclusion of truth is not the way.

Perhaps you’re right, the CCC isn’t speaking infallibly, per se. But, like I keep saying, all it states is what the Muslims profess to believe. It doesn’t even touch on whether any of those beliefs are true! Why do so many people have trouble seeing that??

EDIT: paragraph 841, also cited here… it doesn’t contradict anything else. It just says that God wants the Muslims to come to salvation (just like everyone else on earth). Big news, right?

I think some people are just reading too much into these statements and getting ideas that aren’t there to begin with. Don’t read into the CCC any more than the words that are written on the page.

You are correct that the CCC does not speak infalliably on this issue. However, the CCC is the official ‘guide’ to the Catholic faith, and should be respected along with its content.

Has the church ever infalliably on the subject then? Please do provide quote and sources if so.

“if the Church before Vatican II was wrong in its position as you seem to say” I did not try to ‘say’ such a thing, I simply quoted the CCC. Not taking the CCC at heart would be a grave injustice if committed by any Catholic, and to dismiss it entirely on account that “it’s not infailible” is foolish.

You want to preserve a tradition of war, hate and death between the two largest religions of the world rather than seek peace? Muslims are not demons here, they are humans and thus our brothers and sisters - should we really hate them in any way?

What did the Holy Father do when he was in Germany for WYD? He took the time to reach out to Muslims as well as Jews. shouldn’t we try to follow this example?

Understanding and peace is formed on the basis of common ground. Sharing the faith of Abraham is a common ground between Christians and Muslims.
