It is my understanding the the Church’s teaching said that Jesus Christ was fully 100% man and fully 100% God, correct?

Someone (not going to tell who) said that He was half man and half God, according to the Church.

That’s not what I heard unless I heard wrong.

This is the Church’s teaching.

It is also the teaching of every major Protestant denomination as well.

Blessings,
Richard

Your understanding is correct. The Catechism teaches:

468 After the Council of Chalcedon, some made of Christ’s human nature a kind of personal subject. Against them, the fifth ecumenical council, at Constantinople in 553, confessed that "there is but one *hypostasis *[or person], which is our Lord Jesus Christ, one of the Trinity."93 Thus everything in Christ’s human nature is to be attributed to his divine person as its proper subject, not only his miracles but also his sufferings and even his death: "He who was crucified in the flesh, our Lord Jesus Christ, is true God, Lord of glory, and one of the Holy Trinity."94

469 The Church thus confesses that Jesus is inseparably true God and true man. He is truly the Son of God who, without ceasing to be God and Lord, became a man and our brother:

You are correct. The Church teaches that Jesus was in fact fully human and fully God.
If He were half man and half god, he would then be a demi-god, and substantially less than God. Since we know that Jesus and God are one in being, Jesus cannot be substantially less than God.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God
Eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God,
Light from Light
True God From True God;
One in being with the Father
Through him all THINGS were made.

Do ya think this states clearly enough that Jesus is God?

By the power of the Holy Spirit he came down from Heaven and became Man.

And here he becomes Man.

Fully God, Fully Man

That’s all I wanted to know. I was just verifying. Thanks! 😛

That person who said He was half man half God is wrong. Christ is 100% man, 100% God. Two seperate natures in one person. The natures do not mix.

You should get in the habit of checking in the Catechism first. Also, at this point, you should be sufficiently familiar with the Nicene Creed (even if you haven’t memorized it yet) to have realized immediately, without a doubt, that what you heard was incorrect.

Maybe when you are confirmed the bishop should slap you extra hard. 😃

(Just kidding. I think…)

The human and divine natures have nothing in common, so they can co-exist without conflict.

Jesus is sometimes called the Man-God. We sometimes call people things like Asian-American. It doesn’t mean half-Asian and half-American. The person is fully Asian, and fully American.

The man was Nestorius and he lived 1600 years ago.

I was refering to the man mentioned in the first post. I think you have it mixed up though. Nestorianism said that Christ was two persons basically. Mary was the mother of the human Christ. I think the heresy that is more relevant is the monophysites, who said there was one nature to Christ.

Keep in mind that God in Infinite.

The concept of Infinity is almost impossible for 3-dimensional finite human creations to comprehend. Our language has limitations that prevent us from even defining terms we can use to discuss Infinity. God is not only infinite in all His aspects, but also infinite in dimensions. He can make things happen that we cannot even begin to understand.

Consider the atom: it is 99.9999999% empty space with a few electrical charges. Yet, depending on how an atom is arranged and configured, it could form grains of sand, television sets, airplanes, or humans with free will.

How can we understand how and why God condescended to take on a human nature? We do know He did. We do know that He also allowed some human creationed beings to be ordained as “priests” with the authority to consecrate simple bread and wine into His Body and Blood.

So… why NOT 100%?
