1020 ANNIVERSARY BAPTISM OF RUS’

This weekend in Kyiv, capital city of Ukraina, Patriarch Aleksij and Patriarch Barfolomej of Konstantinople celebrating Divine Liturgy at Volodymyr Hill above Dnipro River. Here was site that statues of pagan Rus’ were tumbled into river and people of Kyiv were baptized. To celebrate this were many events including concerts and visit of two Patriarchs. Only potential problem was politicalization of event. City government forbiding plakards of Patriarch Aleksij - only those showing Jushenko with Patriarch Barfolomej. President Viktor Jushenko did not greet Patriarch Aleksij so warmly as Patriarch Barfolomej.

But many thousands of people turn out to greet Aleksij II with placards with picture of Aleksij.

The Monastery of the Kievan Caves must be perfectly beautiful.
Years ago, I read several books that I purchased from the
St. Vladimir’s Seminary bookstore. This is where I learned of
the Kievan caves. I still remember a book titled
Christ is in Our Midst. It is a wonderful book.
