15 decades or 5 decades a day?

When praying the rosary, does Mary want us to say 15 decades a day or 5 decades a day? I ask, because I was initially doing 5 decades a day, but I read somewhere that at Fatima she supposedly meant for us to recite the whole rosary in one day.

This many decades seems rather taxing on the mind, but I want to be sure I’m doing what Our Lady asked us to do. I hope I’m not making too big of a deal out of this.

15? There is now 20. The traditional way is 5 a day with specific mysteries on certain days.

She meant five decades a day. Remember, she was speaking to little children under the age of seven. Five decades would have seemed like a lot, to them.

As Brother Rich has pointed out, we now have 20 decades to choose from, since the year 2000, when Pope John Paul II added the Mysteries of Light.

You can also make up your own Mysteries, if you want to.

If you do 15 a day, you don’t have to do them all in one sitting – do 5 in the morning, 5 at lunch and 5 before bed or something. I haven’t been able to do this all the time myself, admittedly, but when i did splitting them up helps of course.

I am still trying to get used to the Rosary so I only say one Decade a day.I can never concentrate on the Mysteries.I think Our Lady doesnt mind as long as we try.

One way that helps me is when I pray the Rosary, I sometimes use various ways as suggested in the book “The Secret of the Rosary” by Saint Louis Grignion de Monfort. I find that it keeps my mind focused on the mysteries that I’m meditating on. But you’re absolutely right, Our Lady doesn’t mind, as long as we try.

Just 5 decades per day. This is also the standard for the Legion of Mary. The Confraternity of the Rosary wants 15/20 decades per week.

The only time I can even think about 20 decades per day is when I am on a retreat, with no cats in my lap, or cats who think the rosary is a nifty cat toy

Mary began her instruction to the children by reminding them to say the entire prayer, not just the first few words, as they had been doing, and to complete the rosary, even if it meant doing so later in the day or evening. She was speaking at a very basic beginning level, and taught them the meaning of the prayers, so she meant the standard 5 decades on one set of mysteries.

Haha I definitely know how that is having a cat who thinks the rosary is a cat toy!!!
