*I need help. I have read the following, and need some insight on the following. My questions are in Red after each promise. *
** THE 15 PROMISES OF OUR LADY TO CHRISTIANS WHO RECITE THE ROSARY

  1. *]Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces. Why are we serving Mary? Do we not only serve God?

*]I promise My special protection and the greatest graces to all who shall recite the Rosary. How is it that Mary gives Graces? How does the church reconcile that all Graces come through Mary?

*]The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies. Why is the Rosary more special than a personal prayer to God?

*]It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

*]The soul which recommends itself to Me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish. Why would we give our souls to Mary? Or am I reading this wrong.

*]Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

*]Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.

*]Those who are faithful in reciting the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

*]I shall deliver from purgatory, those who have been devoted to the Rosary. Mary shall deliver us? What gives her the Divine power to do so?

*]The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.

*]You shall obtain all you ask of Me by the recitation of the Rosary. Again, how does reciting this Rosary over and over again differ from making your own prayers up?

*]All those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by Me in their necessities.

*]I have obtained from My Divine Son, that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors, the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.

*]All who recite the Rosary are My sons, and brothers of My only son Jesus Christ.

*]Devotion to My Rosary is a great sign of pre-destination.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

By the way, I am a devout Catholic, say the Rosary, etc. I have Protestant friends who would inevitably ask these questions, and need help with this. THanks again.

I have thought about the Rosary in the past (even tried to pray the Rosary).

I would hope that non-Catholics can understand the power of contemplating the mysteries after preparing the mind through recitation of prayers. To me as a non-Catholic, this was not such a leap to understand.

I believe (although have little experience with) that when we ready our minds, contemplations like those preformed during the Rosary make contact with God more possible.

I believe that it is important to separate the worship afforded God (latria) from the prayers to Mary and this would be something that would cloud my mind a little during the rosary. But, I doubt God is too concerned with the little Italian lady who does not properly distinguish between (dulia and latria).

Anyway, I am suggesting that praying the rosary can be viewed as a concentrated and prepared way of contemplating the mysteries of God. Mary’s intercession on behalf of the faithful should be an added component for the Catholic and should not be considered some kind of horrible thing by the non-Catholic.

Charity, TOm

These are very legitimate questions, many of which I have come across and actually asked myself at one time. However, it was a priest who once helped me understand a lot about Mary and her place in all of this.

First, I recognize the Church as authority and the Church has confirmed authentic apparitions. He said you have to remember, she did not do this on her own. She is only able to do this through the power of the Holy Spirit. That tells me of her special place in the Kingdom.

As far as her praying for us and having special intercessory abilities, he also laughingly stated that a good Jewish boy never says ‘no’ to his mother. 🙂

We are protected by her simply because wherever Jesus is, Mary is there. She always points the way to her Son and nowhere else. She did it in life on earth, and now in heaven.

There is so much more to it but that’s it in a nutshell for me.
Hope it helps.
God bless

My dear friend! Greetings from Ireland.

Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces. Why are we serving Mary? Do we not only serve God?

What does serve mean? We accept Mary as our Mother and Queen. If we accept doctrine that Mary is Queen the regally we serve our of loyalty. Not enough here. To see this in the light of service to God we need to go back to the great command of Christ to serve one another. If you do not serve your neighbour as yourself as an act of love then I can understand your inability to understand how we serve Mary our Mother. Mary was given to us at the foot of the Cross as Mother. We were entrusted to Her care. Again an action of Christ. To serve therefore means a lot more than just to follow orders. It means to love. Do we not love the one who has been given us as Mother?
Mary is like us in all things but sin. She is a human creature. The Church has called her purest of Creatures. In serving her we do no more than what Christ asked us to do in loving our neighbour. In loving our neighbour we give glory to God. In serving our neighbour we give Glory to God. Same with Mary.
We need to give time to the definition of serve.
I promise My special protection and the greatest graces to all who shall recite the Rosary. How is it that Mary gives Graces? How does the church reconcile that all Graces come through Mary?

God in the person of Jesus Christ is the greatest gift of God to the world. God himself. God is…simply that GOD!!! God had no need of Mary. God could have simply appeared on earth, or like Moses, Jesus could have been found; his beginnings uncertain and unknown. Fact is God came into the world through Mary. The greatest grace of salvation and mercy came through Mary’s cooperation with the Divine Plan. God decided the best way for Him to enter the earth was through a woman. The Church proclaims this. If the greatest gift of the grace of Mercy and Salvation came into the world through Mary, then it simply follows that all grace originates from God (Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit) and flows to the world through Mary. The Rosary is a way of obtaining treasures of Grace hidden within. Mary magnifies all graces that pass from God through Her.

The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies. Why is the Rosary more special than a personal prayer to God?
Can’t see where Our Lady said it was a more special prayer. Its power comes from the fact that it is a complete and deep reflection / meditation on the entire life of Jesus Christ. However it is contemplation / reflection on the life of Christ through Mary’s eyes and memory.* (Rosarium Virginis Mariae) *Through this with Mary we will become other Christs. The Rosary stops not with Mary but with development into another Christ.
Prayer has different levels as the Church teaches. The highest is contemplative prayer. Praying the Rosary leads us into this way of prayer. Thats part of its power. The Holy Rosary in its present form was given from Heaven again through the hands of Mary to St. Dominic. Now if Heaven has decided it is powerful why not listen?

The soul which recommends itself to Me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish. Why would we give our souls to Mary? Or am I reading this wrong.

We do not give our souls to Mary, but to God through Her. Again God gave himself to the world through Her so we give Him our souls through Her. Simply following God’s directions!!

I shall deliver from purgatory, those who have been devoted to the Rosary. Mary shall deliver us? What gives her the Divine power to do so?
The name Sabbatine Privilege is derived from the apocryphal Bull “Sacratissimo uti culmine” of John XXII, 3 March, 1322. In this Bull the pope is made to declare that the Mother of God appeared to him, and most urgently recommended to him the Carmelite Order and its confratres and consorores. The Blessed Virgin asked that John, as Christ’s representative on earth, should ratify the indulgences which He had already granted in heaven. She herself would graciously descend on the Saturday (Sabbath after their death and liberate and conduct to heaven all who were in purgatory. At the end of the Bull the pope declares: This holy indulgence I therefore accept; I confirm and ratify it on earth, just as Jesus Christ has graciously granted it in heaven on account of the merits of the Virgin Mother.

You shall obtain all you ask of Me by the recitation of the Rosary. Again, how does reciting this Rosary over and over again differ from making your own prayers up?

It doesn’t. After the Holy Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours, however, it is the most powerful form of contemplation / meditation / petition we have. contemplating the face of Christ together with Mary His, our Mother.

Does the Holy Mass differ from making up our own prayers???

Recition the Rosary over and over again? Christ in the garden of Gethsemane ws heard to pray the same words to His, Our Father in Heaven many times. Christ repeats wording of prayer so I think we are safe to do it.

To finish I would dearly commend you to read ROSARIUM VIRGINIS MARIAE available from the Vatical website (www.vatican.va) The Holy Father addresses all your concerns many many times better than I have attempted to do.

There are a couple of things you should note when you read the text:

I promise My special protection and the greatest graces to all who shall recite the Rosary.

Mary doen’t promise her graces. We believe that all graces come through Christ, but because Mary does these things not for herself but for her Son, He never refuses to give the graces that she asks for. As Mary is the Mother of God by being the mother of Jesus who is God, grace comes through Mary because Jesus who provides all grace came into the world through Mary.

Why is the Rosary more special than a personal prayer to God?

I wouldn’t make the generalization that the rosary is more powerful than all forms of personal prayer; heartfelt prayer that leads to conversion is very powerful. The rosary is contemplation on the nature of God’s relationship with man. It is worship (Glory be), it is petition, and when prayed for another, it is sacrifice. When we repeat the prayers and meditate on the mysteries, it engages our mind on multiple levels. The rosary is very powerful because it is a more complete form of prayer.

As for deliverance from purgatory, we must suffer through our last attachment to sin before we see God face to face; it holds us back. I also see a similarity here: when I was a child, it was my mother who soothed my pain and helped me move past it. If I feel unworthy to face Jesus because of my sin, where am I to turn?

Finally, I think that if we read of these promises and heartfeltly (is that a word? 👍 ) exercise them, it is a sign of our faith, and that faith is rewarded in kind.

Hope that helps

These promises were not given at Fatima. They are a part of private revelations (as is Fatima also) given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan.
If they do not appeal to you or you do not believe them, you are not bound by the Faith to believe them. There are many popes and saints who recommend the Rosary. Pray it and don’t worry about the rest. It is after all a wonderful prayer helping us mediate on the life of Jesus.

Nonetheless, some of go Leafs go’s questions refer to Marian doctrines we believe. Some of them are not specifically/exclusively related to the Fatima promises; so I think they do need to be addressed (Mary as Co-redemptrix and Mediatrix of all graces is a doctrine – though not yet infallibly defined) – and some of us have done a good job at this.

Why is the Rosary more special than a personal prayer to God?
A Rosary is also a personal prayer to God. I think what you mean is why the Rosary is more special than an impromptu prayer.

I used to think impromptu prayers are more pleasing to God than form prayers. I finally realized this was wrong. When I was a Protestant, I noticed that after a while all impromptu prayers turn into form prayers. For instance, for years my family would pray before dinner. I noticed that each prayer sounded exactly the same as the only said the day before. I noticed that my prayers before I went to bed all were basically the same. So all impromptu, if done in a consistent pattern, settles down into a ritual.

So my impromptu prayer eventually became same pattern of praying to God every day. The only difference between my “impromptu prayers” and a form prayer, it that my “impromptu prayer” usually centered on myself, rather than God. Father, please give me this, and give me that. Blah, blah, blah. Instead of praying my self-centered prayers, I started to pray the way Jesus commanded us to - the “Our Father”. This prayer has the right perspective. It starts with God, our desire to hallow His name. Our desire to submit to His will and His kingdom. Only after focusaing on God, do I pray for my needs. And even then it is only my sincere needs for that day. I then ask God for forgiveness, and remind myself that I must also forgive other. At the end, I am reminded that the most important need is for me not to be tempted to sin, and to be delivered from the evil one. What a wonderful prayer! And after I pray the Our Father, I would then do some impromptu prayers, and I noticed that after the Our Father, my impromptu prayer were more spontaneous, more sincere, more God-center than without the Our Father preceding them.

The same goes for the Hail Mary. My focus was first on Mary, not on my needs. Then I ask her to pray for me now and at death. I am reminded how this life is so temporary, and the most important thing I need is perseveance to the end.

Both of these prayers make up the Rosary. They are designed to get our eyes off of ourselves and onto God and His mother.

To top it off, we are called to mediates on the mysteries on the life of Christ will we prayer the Rosary. We meditate on His birth, His childhood, His baptism, His teachings, His transfiguration, His passion, His resurrection and His resurrection. All but three of the 20 meditations center on Christ. The Rosary is very Christ-centered. I have been praying the Rosary every day, and it has given my a deeper love for Christ than I ever thought it was possible to have.

This is why the Rosary is the highest prayer we can give to God.

How come I have never seen these promises ever before? Are these true? I have gone on Father Gruner’s website and I have never seen these before.

Fr Gruner??? Don’t start me on him. Please get some proper advice from the proper Fatima resources.

Fr. Gruner has shown nothing but contempt for Our Holy Father, Sr. Lucia and the essentials of the Fatima message. Just type his name into a search engine and you’ll see.

Sheeesh.

hey PAULACKERMANN, I think you really put it right. I’ve noticed that the prayers for dinner are almost always the same too in my girlfriends household (with some minor alterations). I like your reasoning though about focusing on who you are praying to first then considering your personal intentions as being the reason’s the “set” prayers are so good.

I agree! Those were beautiful thoughts! Thank you very much!

Why is the Rosary more special than a personal prayer to God?
Just some thoughts on this by St Louis on why some prayers have more merits than others; the Lord’s prayer (Our Father) and the Angelic Salutation (Hail Mary) rank very high; that’s why the Rosary is the most excellent form of prayer after Holy Mass in the life of Christians!

*The Angelic Salutation, or Hail Mary, is so heavenly and so beyond us in its depth of meaning, that Blessed Alan de la Roche held that no mere creature could ever understand it, and that only our Lord Jesus Christ, born of the Virgin Mary, can really explain it.
Code:
Its enormous value is due, first of all, to our Lady to whom it was addressed, to the purpose of the Incarnation of the Word, for which reason this prayer was brought from heaven, and also to the archangel Gabriel who was the first ever to say it.

The Angelic Salutation is a most concise summary of all that Catholic theology teaches about the Blessed Virgin. It is divided into two parts, that of praise and that of petition. The first shows all that goes to make up Mary's greatness; and the second, all that we need to ask her for, and all that we may expect to receive through her goodness.

The most Blessed Trinity revealed the first part of it to us; St. Elizabeth, inspired by the Holy Spirit, added the second; and the Church gave us the conclusion in the year 430 when she condemned the Nestorian heresy at the Council of Ephesus and defined that the Blessed Virgin is truly the Mother of God. At this time she ordered us to pray to our Lady under this glorious title by saying, "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death."
In the Angelic Salutation can be seen the faith and hope of the patriarchs, the prophets and the apostles. Furthermore, it gives to martyrs their unswerving constancy and strength, it is the wisdom of the doctors of the Church, the perseverance of the holy confessors and the life of all religious (Blessed Alan). It is the new hymn of the law of grace, the joy of angels and men, and the hymn which terrifies devils and puts them to shame.
Code:
By the Angelic Salutation God became man, a virgin became the Mother of God, the souls of the just were delivered from Limbo, the empty thrones in heaven have been filled, sin has been pardoned, grace been given to us, the sick been made well, the dead brought back to life, exiles brought home, the Blessed Trinity has been appeased, and men obtained eternal life.

Finally, the Angelic Salutation is the rainbow in the sky, a sign of the mercy and grace which God has given to the world (Blessed Alan).*

I would very much suggest reading that book mentioned above! 👍

The Rosary is not the highest form of prayer we can give to God. The Mass is the highest form of prayer. So says the Church!
