The JWs frequently quote this text against the divinity of Christ.
What do you think is the correct interpretation?

My thoughts on it are that Jesus hands over everything, back to his Father, his task of redemption complete. His subjection refers to his humanity, which will then be subsumed into his position as the 2nd Person of the Blessed Trinity. ‘God will be all in all’ refers to the Trinity as the ultimate reality.

Here’s what the footnote says from my Bible:

28 “The Son also himself shall be subject unto him”… That is, the Son will be subject to the Father, according to his human nature, even after the general resurrection; and also the whole mystical body of Christ will be entirely subject to God, obeying him in every thing.

(whole mystical body is of course the Church)

And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then the Son also himself shall be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. 1 Cor 15:28 Douay-Rheims

I think that if we proof text any particular scenario of the Divinity of Christ, either for or against, we do wrong. Scripture should be taken in its totality. The Doctrine of the Trinity does just that. Scripture points to both the humanity and Divinity of Jesus. Whereas one can find various verses and texts to support His humanity, one cannot over look the various verses and texts to support His Divinity.

I think what happens often is kind of a zing fest where one side says, “Look here, the Bible says Jesus is human” and then the other side zings back with an, “What about over here where it clearly shows Christ’s Divinity?”

Have you read the Tome of Leo the Great? If not here it is. It’s short and in my opinion divinely inspired.
