1st Mass with prospective adoptive son

This past Saturday night the little boy we are working towards adopting spent the night and we took him to Mass with us the next morning (3rd Sunday of Advent 12/13/08). DW and I were a little apprehensive because we just didn’t know how it was going to go. We talked about how to handle things and when to talk him out if needed and all that. Well, it went GREAT! He was an angel. Absolutely minimal fussing and when he did, just a quick finger to my lips and a very hushed “shh” and he quieted right down. Whenever we stood I picked him up and when we sang, prayed, or responded I would speak into his ear. I am hoping to show him that there are appropriate times to be vocal in Mass. When we knelt, I sat him on the back of the pew in front of us and held him as he faced me. It was a rather emotional time for me when I prayed the Creed into his ear while holding him. The elderly lady that came in a little late and sat right behind us remarked at how well behaved he was.

Just sharing with ya’all.

God bless.

p.s. We also took him to the Christmas Cantata Saturday night at our church and he also did very well with that too. He had a little more elbow room for that event. The Cantata was beautiful btw.

Congratulations on your prospective adoption! I hope all goes well for you and for your (almost) new son. How old is he?

You brought me tears of total joy with your story. Dh and I also have a little boy; he turned two on the 1st of December. We cherish the moments, just like you discribed, that are put before us to show tenderness and give guidance to these little ones that he has trusted us with. I am so happy you brought him to Mass. God bless your family.

Oh my gosh!!! You are SO lucky. DH and I are waiting and praying for the first Mass we get to take a pre-adoptive baby to. It’s so good to hear it went well. Be sure to keep us updated on the adoption progress - there’s a thread over at parenting, and I know I’m speaking for everyone over there when I say that we want to hear every single detail!

Lovely story. ❤️

Praying that all goes well for you both and the young 'un.
