Hey Guys.

I was just reading up on some articles about all of the statues of the virgin mary weeping, and I noticed that the majority of the statues that were weeping were in catholic churches which were supposed to be closing down, and some were actually seen in other churches of different religions, and these weeping statues are seen as miracles by many people.

But I was also thinking that since these miracles of wheeping statues are seen in all different churches, what if it was the work of the devil trying to confuse people about their religion, or if the devil could be doing this to mess with peoples heads. Does this sound like it’s a horrible thing to be thinking??? because if it is the work of the virgin mary and i’m thinking it could be the work of the devil, doesn’t that tie in with the unforgivable sin?

I’ve heard that the unforgivable sin is not accepting jesus’s forgivness and dieing with a hardend heart, or in mortal sin, but why does the church believe this because if you read in the scriptures it says clearly that the unforgivable sin is saying that the miracles of God are actually the work of the devil. So why does the church see the unforgivable sin as something so different than what is written in the scriptures so clearly?

My 2 questions are:
  1. Is it horribe that i’m pondering the thought of these weeping mary’s to be the work of the devil when they are works of a holy power? and would this be seen as a miracle of the virgin Mary or God?
  2. Why does the church believe that the unforgivable sin is not accepting Jesus’s forgiveness, when it says so clearly that the unforgivable sin is saying that God’s miracles of the devil?
I know you guys are probably getting sick of hearing me talk about this unforgivable sin, but I worry about it so often, because if I had committed it i’m eternally doomed, and I don’t see how anyone could just shrug that off.

I’m slowly learning more stuff about my faith, But there is A LOT to learn! And this forum helps A LOT, so thank you all.

please give a citation where the bible says the unforgivable sin is refusing to believe hysterical claims of weeping statues

so I don’t believe what? you have not stated an article of faith required of belief for all Catholics, so I am not understanding your question.

by the way, even if you had committed an unforgivable sin, you are not eternally doomed because you are not dead yet, you still have time to confess to a priest, express contrition and be absolved.

I am waiting for you to find a bible citation that says the unforgivable sin is failure to believe in reports about weeping statues.

The only bible citation that I was talking about is the verse saying that the unforgivable sin is saying that a miracle of God is the work of the devil, Like when Jesus was casting out demons and people said that this was the work of the devil, Jesus said something along the lines of “How can the Devil cast out demons with the power of a demon, for I say to you anyone who blasphemes the son of man shall be forgiven but whoever blasphemes against the holy spirit shall not be forgiven in this world or the world to come, he is said to have committed an eternal sin”

Steven,
I heard it was said that the unforgieable sin is not accepting and recognizing God’s graces. Just a thought…

Now I’m interested in the answer because I always thought the Unforgivable sin was blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:29).

the link you gave requires registration to view, and we do not take our teaching on matters of faith, morals or miraculous weeping statues from fox news.

Another poster has kindly supplied the verse wherein Jesus says blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the unforgiveable sin. There are several threads, including at least two questions on AAA, dealing with this topic. The unforgiveable sin is failing to accept the mercy and forgiveness of God, in otherwords failure to repent, express contrition for sins and as forgiveness. The failure to ask for forgiveness is the only unforgiveable sin.

I am still unable to determine how weepings statues relate either to unforgiveable sin, or the Jesus casting out demons. I do not understand the question posed in the original post.

Steven87,

What does the Catholic Church teach regarding the unforgiveable sin? Do you assent to her teachings?

Steven87,
  1. Is it horribe that i’m pondering the thought of these weeping mary’s to be the work of the devil when they are works of a holy power? and would this be seen as a miracle of the virgin Mary or God?
God has never revealed to me a weeping statue as a private revelation. Thus, I am not bound to assent to such private revelations. I am only bound to assent to what God reveals to me, both naturally, through use of reason and His creation, and supernaturally, through the teachings of his Holy Church.
  1. Why does the church believe that the unforgivable sin is not accepting Jesus’s forgiveness, when it says so clearly that the unforgivable sin is saying that God’s miracles of the devil?
I believe you need to further study what the Church teaches on the matter. The Church has a much wider understanding of that verse than you suggest. See this article for more: GhostCATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Holy

puzzleannie, it was just a simple bible verse that I was sure you would have read and known of, forgive me for thinking different, and if you still don’t understand, nevermind because I got a good enough answer from dave.

I know what the church teaches regarding the unforgivable sin, I said this in my first post, what I don’t understand is how they came to this conclusion, becuse in the verse regarding the “Unforgivable Sin” it doesn’t say anything about not accepting God’s graces and forgivness (Not accepting Gods forgivness makes sense as the unforgivable sin, other than speaking a few blasphemous words) But im still not clear how the church came to this conclusion when it says so clearly that the unforgivable sin is attributing God’s miracles to the devil.

And about the weeping statues, all I was wondering is that if it is such a miraculas event done by God (especially when not even scientists can figure out a reason on why the statue is weeping)
Is it wrong to think it was maybe not a miracle of God? Thats it.

I thought that the unforgivable sin is knowing the truth and
rejecting that truth because of pride. For example, you found
the truth in the Catholic Church, but because you have been
attacking and rejecting the Catholic church all your life,
you can’t accept that fact and admit it.

…I know what the church teaches regarding the unforgivable sin
If you read the link I gave, you would find that you are in violent agreement with the Church as to what that verse means. Except that is not all that the verse means. There are many senses of Sacred Scripture, and it is the competence of the magisterium to teach authentically the meaning God intended.

Sorry if you don’t see the other senses in that verse. Perhaps you are limiting yourself to a Sola Scriptura approach when the Church, and the authors of Scripture never intended their audience to limit their understanding in such a way. My advice is that you ought to submit to the teachings of the magisterium which are based upon both Sacred Scritpure AND Sacred Tradition.
And about the weeping statues, all I was wondering is that if it is such a miraculas event done by God (especially when not even scientists can figure out a reason on why the statue is weeping)

Have you witnessed such a miracle? Or are you merely going on heresay? The Church has not bound any of the faithful to believe the private revelations of others. As such, you can think anything you like about these private revelations, or you can not think about them at all. Your choice.
