2 Sam 6,6-7 - Why did God kill Uzzah?

If one were making an electrical device it would be better design to plate it with silver, a good conductor, rather than gold, a poor conductor.

One possible explanation is that Uzzah tried to prevent the Ark hitting the earth - But he KNEW he must not touch it, so wasn’t doing his job and committed sacrilege. If it had hit the ground/soil/mud then it was only doing its God-given ‘job’ [being the ground] so couldn’t have been acting sacrilegiously.

Another slant is that the Ark carried the Word of God. Who else carried the Word of God? Mary when she carried Jesus in her womb. If the Ark is seen as a ‘Type’ of Mary then it could not be touched by a man - just as Mary, ever Virgin could not be touched by a man.

To me killing Uzzah seems a very harsh thing for God to do as he only acted with good intentions. However, when viewing the Ark as a Type of Mary, then it makes much more sense why he died.

Perhaps this is a case of a Type in the Old Testament acting as a forewarning or foretelling of that which was to come in the New Testament. [The NT is hidden in the OT, the OT is revealed in the NT]
