[BIBLEDRB]2 Thessalonians 2:9-11[/BIBLEDRB]

So my friend was asked me this question today. He wanted to know if this verse was explaining that God would send down the Antichrist.

I’m usually good at answering all of these kind of questions about our faith but this one stumped me. I told him that i would ask this question to some GREATER Catholic Apologetics than i 😃

So, is this actually saying God is sending the Antichrist to test us?

I believe that it is saying God is going to allow the antichrist to come, yes.

The whole chapter seems to designate the person you call Antichrist as a atheist who works false wonders and signs and calls himself a god even though he rejects the notion of gods and objects of worship. This atheist comes in the time of a rebellion. He is the son of lawlessness and Hell. He is sent by Satan. So don’t be deceived and lbe sure to love the truth!

Good point. I too also think that God allows the Antichrist to roam the earth so that He can separate the sheep from the goats.

Here is the footnotes to the Aquinas Study Bible

2:11 God sends upon them: that is, God will permit the Antichrist, the worker of lies, to come to them. (Haimo of Auxerre)

2:12 God chose you: In this passage the foreknowledge of God comes through clearly. He knows the minds of all before they are born, nor is it a secret to Him of who will believe. He has known from the beginning who would become believers and which of them will increase in faith and not decrease. (Ambrosiaster)

I don’t think the antichrist will be atheist, he would have a hard time convincing people to follow him.

I think he will be a Jew pertaining to be the Messiah and will draw in Jews, Christians and Muslims alike and probably atheists too.

He won’t be a Catholic which I hear a lot.

Perhaps, God allows, or sends this judgement of deception on those of us who would embrace materialism in the form of corporate capitalism, or atheistic communism rather than the denial of self that is proclaimed in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It would seem, that the free market system of international buying and selling will be destroyed by the ten horns of the antichrist, and be replaced with a tyrannical system of buying and selling in the antichrist’s name.

**These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast.
They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful."
And the angel said to me, “The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and languages.
And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire,
for God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one mind and handing over their royal power to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.
And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth.” ** (ESV REvelations 17:13-18).

Yet, who can really understand the prophetic words of God, unless they themselves have been given the gift? We know from today’s gospel reading, that a true prophet is not honored in his own country, and the truest of all prophets is our Lord Jesus Christ.

Me, and I do have the actual gift, but am still learning even through mistakes.
