Stop and pray together when you hear emergency vehicles. Pray for emergency workers and victims.
Eventually, it will be a good and natural response for them when they are on their own.
 
I do think the article has some good suggestions. Children can learn to pray from a very young age, including prayers before and after meals and bedtime prayers, and the rosary.

I like the idea of reading the bible together. It reminds me of a time when I was teaching fifth grade CCD. I started telling the stories from Genesis, not verbatim, but close. The kids loved the stories, and Genesis does have a story line, especially the story of Abraham and his 12 sons, the story of Joseph being sold into Egypt, then becoming second in command to the Pharaoh. It gave the children a start on salvation just from telling stories, which is what the bible does too.
