200th Anniv "Evangeline"

Today is the 200th Anniversary of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s beautiful epic poem, “Evangeline.”

IMO, this is an extremely “Catholic” poem, and it was used by God to help bring me and my husband into the Catholic Church.

I also named one of my children “Evangeline.”

I had to memorize big sections of this in 7th grade, and reading over it just now brough back such memories! What a beautiful poem!

I had to read it in school too, though I don’t remember what grade. I love that poem! Isn’t there a line in it about Evangeline’s breath being as sweet as a cow’s? I’ll have to go and pull my copy and find that line.
