I was searching around and found a post from awhile ago talking about getting relics from different saints. I was wondering how and where I would be able to get one myself? I know that the church doesn’t allow the sale of relics themselves (many I’ve heard cover the cost of the prayer card, medal, etc the relic is encased in). I’ve always wanted to have a relic because I think it’s a great way to develop a personal relationship with the saints and because I think the history behind them is really interesting.
God bless!

Many Catholic gift shops sell inexpensive 3rd class relic medals of popular saints.

Many shrines to a particular saint likewise sell inexpensive 3rd class relic cards or medals of the particular saint. Sometimes if you’re really lucky they will have 2d class.

If you happen to be visiting the tomb of a saint or beati, and they let you touch it, you can touch your rosary or your own medal or even a piece of cloth to it and make your own 3rd class relic in this way. Likewise, if you happen to know a priest or a religious who has access to a 1st class relic, then you can ask them to touch your rosary or medal to that relic. You can only make the item a 3rd class relic of one saint.

If you’re fortunate enough to know of a venerable or Servant of God who might at some point be beatified but right now is still in a regular cemetery, you can get some dirt from their grave site and that’s a relic too. You can also look at the websites for their cause to see if there is a place where you can write in and maybe make a small donation and in return, get a relic.

Does anyone know of places where you can request a 2nd class relic of St Padre Pio or St Pope John Paul II?

They are both so popular that I’m guessing the number of second-class relics for each has been depleted long ago and we’re now into third class.

I would suggest you contact St Pio’s main shrine in Italy, or perhaps the National Centre for St Padre Pio would have some info for you.

For Pope JPII, I’d suggest you ask his shrine in Washington DC about this.
