Just an FYI:

I have one of their DR bibles on backorder. This being the case, I contacted Baronius regarding the known errors in their first printing that were discussed on this forum <link> and in other places on the net.

Well I got a reply and it is refreshing:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email.

We are aware of those mistakes and they have been (together with other ones our customers pointed out) corrected for the second edition of the larger Bible, Psalms and New Testament and the pocket size Bible.

We had some advance copies of the “second print” of the flexible Bible air-freighted and they can be purchased via our online shop at
http://www.baroniuspress.com/bible/douay_rheims_bible.htm

The books are in transit to our UK and US warehouse and should be available to our distributor in US in approx 3-4 weeks.

Kind Regards

Baronius Press Ltd

So it looks as if the next “printing” of their DR will will have the known typo’s corrected in it, which is always a good thing! 🙂

Peace be with all of you,

Awesome! I gave my Baronius DRB to a friend as a gift recently who is exploring the Catholic faith. She’s a former pagan but now feels an inexplicable pull to Christ. Being the kind of guy I am, 😃 I’m of course trying to steer her towards the fullness of the Truth which can only be found in the Catholic Church.

I’m torn now as to which Bible to get next to replace the one I gave her. I was planning on starting the Navarre Bible series, but a new Baronius…? Hmmmm… decisions! 🙂 Maybe a Douay Challoner? Ugh! I just don’t know! LOL!

I’m disappointed to hear about the errors in the Baronius DR. I just bought one this past Christmas. Too bad they don’t have some kind of discount “step-up” program for those of us who have the error-ridden first printing. I’m reluctant to pay them again for something I should have gotten in the first place.

Mike,

Just do what I was planning on doing (had I recieved the one with typos): Just pencil in the fixes (see the link in the first post on this thread for some of them). Sure it is not as “clean” or “perfect” and one that is correct from the start but it is good to have it correct nonetheless. That said, I can also understand your desire to have it printed correct in the first place.

As for the trade-in program, I would wait until the new one hits the streets (in about a month), then send them an email (easy to do at baroniuspress.com). You never know unless you ask…they may want to keep good PR.

If you have success (or not) with this, be sure to let others know through the forum 🙂

At the current time they are not going to do anything to those who have versions with typos. (I asked)
The reasoning is:

  1. *]Only God is perfect so we should expect some errors
*]If they offered refunds of discounts it would only benefit the “enemies of the Church.”
*]If they start this offering discounts it would cause financial harm to Baroness Press.

This is the E-Mail reponse I received from Baronius:

Many thanks for your email. We have recently reprinted the Douay Rheims Bible, and have corrected the handful of mistakes that a few individuals were kind enough to point out. Whilst our intention has always been to have a perfect reproduction of the Douay Rheims Bible, we all know that unlike God, with humans beings, errors will always occur, and we must try to rectify these as they become apparent in reprints.

If we were to offer, as you propose, to replace the Bible at minimal cost to 6,000 people, the losses incurred in printing and posting these out would result in the rapid demise of Baronius Press, which would be a victory for the enemies of the Church.

In view of this, because this handful of errors must be frustrating for one who reads the Bible so regularly, we can suggest what many have already done, that is to make an Errata card (this is the traditional way in which errors in Catholic Bibles and prayer books have been noted through the ages).

Yours sincerely,

Joel Newman

YEY Finally! A pocketable version!! All I need is them to give me good shipment to Canada that’s not so pricy being not of the US…

I love the Douay-Rheims, and have fallen in love with it. Officially, it is my standard bible, but I need a hardcopy within my hands so I can take with me all around. All I have is a small size edition of the NAB and a bulky NJB I carry around.

I hope to get one by Christmas, or at least pay it for myself 😉 I still need a job…

What I would like to ask about this Bible is, what is the print like, size wise? I am currently using a Douay that is–I kid you not–94 years old, but the print is easy on my aging eyes. On the other hand, I am afraid that someday it is going to fall apart in my hands!
If this one has decent print, it sounds like I might be interested. (The nonagenarian copy can then be retired to my bedside table, where the only wear it will get is when I can’t sleep & don’t want to get up!)
I see that the compact version has  6 point type, which I might be able to see with a floodlight & a magnifying glass as strong as a pair of spyglasses!

Well, I just got my Baronius DR this week, and am basically pleased. They said they corrected the known typos and I have verified that they have fixed the one I knew of in Jonas 4:11. If anyone knows of the other errors (specifically) in the first (2003) edition, I would be happy to check out the copyright 2005 edition I have to see if they were indeed fixed.

Zooey, I have your answer. I determined the main text (not footnotes) to be 9pt and appears to be Times New Roman face. I determined the size by printing text from MS Word, Times New Roman Font ranging from 6 to 12 pt. The 9pt is a perfect match by my old eyes. Try it yourself to be able to see it first hand.

I have just put my order in for mine…
I can hardly wait, my old(!) Douay is getting threadbare…

JMJ + OBT

Did anyone ever find or compile a list of the known “typos” in the previous Baronius Press printings?

I e-mailed them, asking for such a list, which I hope to use to correct the mistakes in my copy (which is free of the other production problems that some seemed to have suffered), but they said they have no such list available.

Thanks for your help.

My Baronius press 2nd edition came today. It is the most beautiful Bible I have ever seen.
The coolest part (for me) is that I have been using that DR that is nearly a century old? Well this one is exactly like it. I mean, it is better print, papaer, & cover (real leather!), but it is like I got my old one redone for me! I mean, I can look things up by the page.
It’s an awesome Bible. Even nicer than my Jerusalem (the original, not the new one), which is a very, very nice one that my mother gave me years ago…

I like my 2nd edition of the Baronius DR. It just feels better than the first edition. The pages lay flatter and the binding seems to have been improved. I’m contemplating getting their “pocked sized” edition as well. I wasn’t too thrilled with buying a new editon to get a DR sans typos, but it was a worthwhile investment.

  1. In other words, “We screwed up, and we’re going to make you pay the price. And it’s unreasonable for you to object.” They sound like politicians.
