So how are we all doing in this season of penance and reflection?
After my session with my Spiritual Director last Tuesday, I have made a few minor changes.
Probably the biggest was to to return to my previous fasting pattern of the main meal at 11 AN - Noon, with the light supper/snack/collation when I get back home at midnight. Plus another “bite to eat” at work if I feel fatigued. I still seem to be hungry most of the time…no big deal. I also feel quite bouncy and alert.
I had tried the use of Discipline and Cilice, but had to admit to my SD that I seemed to get nothing out of it other then a feeling of being silly. He agreed that I should forgo their use. It may work for some people, but for me, I just felt like a twit.
At work I still do 1 hour of prayer and reading at coffee breaks and lunch. Plus the Rosary at other breaks, or when walking from one station to another.
Most of my spiritual prayer, prayerful reading, and meditation is done from midnight (when I get home) until 2 AM, when I go to bed. With breaks for feeding the cats, feeding myself, and adoring the cats and telling them how wonderful they are, as if they didn’t know it already.
My last 15 minutes are spent in bed, contemplating this wonderfil icon of a young, female angel, hands folded over her breasts, in a spirit of repose. An Orthodox icon of Jesus Christ Holy Silence. So I drift off to sleep in at “attitude of gratitude”.
