Any one out there, male or female, over 40, single - never married, no children ever try looking for a retreat to attend?
**I’m 56yo and fit all of the above and have been looking for a retreat to attend with others that fit in this catagory (not a singles retreat to find a spouse). It seems that all the retreats I come across are aimed at one or more of the following (and no I’m not saying that retreats are not needed for these people - they certainly are) youth, married (with or without problems), single parents (previously married or not), widowed or divorced, and religious (priests, nuns, brothers). **
I have even tried to get retreat houses to offer one; I always get the same answer -" that’s a good idea," but it never goes any further.

If you are interested - answer the one question poll - lets see if any retreat houses pick up on this.

Thanks,
Danny

I haven’t looked for a Retreat yet, but I have noticed a lot of Parish activities have a cut off age of 30 or so. I am looking at discernment for a 3rd order, or Catholic group in the next year or so, for formation and community. Perhaps this could be an option for you? Retreats would be a part of it I’m sure.

I am sorry. I misunderstood the options in the poll and ended up voting for Option 2.

I’m in my 60’s and have found retreats based on things other than age or gender, such as divine mercy, charismatic, evangelization, Ignatius, De Sales, healing, etc. I know sometimes it seems like the emphasis is on couples, the family, or teens but keep looking.

I’m in my 30s but everything else on your list and always keeping eyes and ears open for retreats. Since it doesn’t look like I will be getting married in time to have a family, I’m finding that I’ve pretty much aged out of the young adult groups/activities, which tend to be geared towards the young couple/finding-a-spouse-to-start-a-family-with-in-your-twenties crowd. The options mentioned by ClaireS sound like a wonderful start…also, you might consider making a private retreat. I actually did this once while another (young adult) retreat was going on so it wouldn’t be too isolating…it was wonderfully fruitful and restorative.

The Knights of Columbus here used to put together an annual men’s retreat. The first year I attended it changed the course of my life. Unfortunately, the man who organized it has retired from the duty and no one else has picked up the baton.

I was missing that experience, so I decided to make my own, private retreat this year. My daughter was going to a day camp, just far enough away from home that it was most practical to wait for her rather than return home. I found a nearby parish that had morning Mass, daily Eucharistic Adoration, morning Reconciliation available, and a book store.

So, I had 8 days over a two week span to spend a couple of hours a day with God. Morning Rosary, Mass, a bit of Adoration, then get a good cup of coffee and then read a chapter from Nine Words.

If a knucklehead like me can do it, you can too! 👍

I’m in that demographic, though my diocese has enough retreat offerings that would work for anyone. If you have means to travel at least a little, maybe you can find something via www.catholicretreats.net - good luck! 🙂
