No one can tackle this problem by themselves, but we are all called to do our part. That could be giving money to charities that support those in extreme poverty. It could be evangelizing those around us to thinking more about these people. It could be volunteering to serve people in this situation. It could even be a mix of all of these.

Making these types of atrocities known is an important first step. The Catholic Church does a great job helping the needy, but fails miserably at making the atrocities known to its members. You really have to go to the back-pages on the Internet to get the news, as none of the major news networks carry this information.

If we call the Holocaust a crime against humanity, I see no reason why society does not declare extreme poverty, that often results in extreme pain and suffering, to also be a crime against society.
