here is the situation:
hi, sorry if you are busy but i need some help.we got cats a long time ago(against my parents wishes) and now they would like to donate them. none of us have a problem with this except for my sister(she is the oldest). She is under the impression that they “love” her. My parents said that if she wants to keep them then she has to take care of them and they are not allowed on the couch. Me and my mother are the only ones that take care of them and she purposelly lets them on the couch to annoy my our parents. I was thinkning of letting them go without anyone knowing that i did it on purpose, and then i would just tell everyone that they ran away. Please tell me waht i should do. Am i not honoring my mother and father by not doing something about the situation? Please help me! thanks.

Sounds like you need to be honest with your parents about not wanting to care for the cats. Let your parents know the cats are on the couch when they are not around. Also your parents need to follow through on what they said. If she does not care for them and keep them off the couch, your parents need to get rid of the cats.

I see your point, but you do not want to disobey parents or lie.

I was thinkning of letting them go without anyone knowing that i did it on purpose, and then i would just tell everyone that they ran away.
Your Mom and Dad realized prior to getting the cats that a possible majority of care would be their responsiblity. Your Mom is responsible for demanding proper care of pets and for the establishment of household rules.

The humane option, would be to locate a new family for the cats, via adoption.

The inhumane and abusive thing to do to any tamed animal, would be “letting them go without anyone knowing that i did it on purpose.” Doing so would open up their lives to being killed or hit by cars, dog attacks, and it would force them toward starvation through your purposeful neglect.

I apologize if my remarks come across harsh. I’ve adopted multiple starving alley cats caused by the inhumane dumping of pets (by people who caused their pet’s negative behaviors).

Is this a joke? Release the pets where they will have to fend for themselves? Not only would that be beyond irresponsible (making their care someone else’s problem), but it would be cruel and inhumane and an abuse of our call to stewardship over living things.

Are you 18 or older? Feel free to move out of your parents’ home if you don’t like the living conditions. If you are a teenager, then I suggest speaking with your mother about your responsibilities regarding the cats. Alternatively, do some research on how to keep cats off of furniture. Start looking for an alternative home for them. Do something helpful and proactive to improve the situation.

maybe i should have been more clear when i started this: MY LOVE FOR MY PARENTS IS REAL. WHEN PEOPLE SAY THEY LOVE ANIMALS THEY ARE LYING, ANIMALS ARE INCAPABLE OF LOVE.

ya’ know what?!?! i’m still pretty angry, im trying to honor my parents, God put it number four on the list, before everything else but after him, your and my parents are greater than some fake love people have for animals just because they are cute.

h. I was thinkning of letting them go without anyone knowing that i did it on purpose, and then i would just tell everyone that they ran away. Please tell me waht i should do. Am i not honoring my mother and father by not doing something about the situation? Please help me! thanks.
your mother is the parent, it is up to her to do something about the situation if one of her children is disobedient. It is unspeakably cruel to simply let the cats go. In the wild, even or especially in the city their lives will be short and brutal. I am still trying to figure out what your thread title means.

Under no circumstances should you just let those cats go off on their own. They are pets not wild cats and unable to take care of themselves. If the cats mean so much to your sister, then she has to step up and take care of them and follow your Mom’s rules about not letting them on the couch, otherwise your Mom has every right to give them away to a good home. Her house. Her rules.

You frankly, are wrong.

Cats and dogs may or may not have souls, but they are capable of unconditional love toward humans.

Your inability to express any degree of responsiblity or care in return to these pets (whom you originally pleaded with your parents to have) is immature, selfish and hard of heart.

may or may not have souls? they dont.

unconditional love? you mean instincts.

hard of heart? i love my parents more than anything in the world(second only to God) and i hate that none of you are truly giving me an answer because, just like mt sister, you think animals"love" you.

You can honor your mother and father by allowing them to make the decision of what is best for the cats which is seems that adoption by another family is the best in this situation.

Your parent’s got the cats with conditions. Those condiitions have not been met, therefore, they should give the cats to someone that will care for them.

We all gave you an answer.

It is a sin to dump a tame animal, back onto the streets. Particularly when you initially requested and pleaded to keep the pet as a member of your household. Civil law calls it neglect and cruelty to animals.

Hard of heart toward your pets. Reread my statement to you:
Your inability to express any degree of responsiblity or care in return to these pets (whom you originally pleaded with your parents to have) is immature, selfish and hard of heart.
An animal’s instinct protects itself from injury. A rattlesnake never stops feeling the need to protect itself from injury. A rattlesnake is incapable of developing an attachment to a human being.

That is not the case with cats or dogs. They bond to and with their family.

P.S. Your parents are adults. They ultimately are responsible for the decision to allow pets into their home.

You can honor your mother and father by allowing them to make the decision of what is best for the cats which is seems that adoption by another family is the best in this situation.

.
but isnt doing this the same thing as when puntious pilate “washed his hands” of the responsibility of prosecuting Jesus?

please explain to me why any animal would be able to develope any true attatchment to any human being at all.
Pets and human beings bond to each other for comfort, protection, companionship, and physical touch.

Dear, the point is, the cats rely on your family for shelter and food. Regardless of your relationship with them, whether you love them or not, whether they love you or not, the animals are your family’s responsibility. You have been repeatedly told that your parents should handle this situation. Not you. If the cats are causing a problem, it is up to your parents and them alone to find a new, suitable home for the cats. To ignore this, and cast the animals onto the street where they would not be able to fend for themselves, would not only be disobeying and disrespecting your parents, but directly causing harm to these animals.

You want proof that cats and dogs are loyal to their owners? I stopped caring for my childhood cat years ago when I went to college and my mom became the person to feed her, cuddle her etc. Now, 5 years since I’ve ever given that cat a bit of food, I am still the first person she will run to. Because I made an impact on her life somehow and she still associates me with warmth and kindness. I have cared for snakes before. They do not show the same affection although I think they express a certain comfort level with someone they reocgnize. Dogs are self-explanitory. You could leave your loyal friend for years and come back and they will shower you with affection no matter how long it has been. These animals are the epitome of unconditional love as long as they receive it in return. If you do not know what it’s like to be loved by a pet, I truly feel sorry for you.

Finally, no, finding a better home for the cats is nothing close to “washing your hands” of the situation. Tossing the animals out without a second thought would definitely be washing your hands of it. One of my cats had issues with urinating on things. I could’ve just brought her to a humane society and drop her off and make it someone else’s problem. Instead, I brought her to the vet and we surmised it was most likely a urinary tract infection. Several days of antibiotics later, not more random urination. You find a correct and humane solution to your problems. That is the way to deal with this.

… than some fake love people have for animals just because they are cute.
Sorry buddy, but people’s love for their animals is VERY real. Maybe you don’t live the cats, but don’t you DARE tell me that my love for my pets is not real.

Grow up and let your parents handle it.

but isnt doing this the same thing as when puntious pilate “washed his hands” of the responsibility of prosecuting Jesus?
Please oh please do not try to compare your parent’s responsibility with the cat with that of Pilate’s advocation of responsibility for Jesus’ death.
