66 books in the Bible? Off by 7

Number have meaning in the Bible. The number 7 stands for perfection. (i.e. Jesus said to forgive 70 times 7) The number 6 stands for imperfection. (i.e. mark of the beast is 666)

So…how many books are in most Protestant Bibles?
Answer: 66
Doesn’t that imperfect number seem like an odd number for God to use?

So…how many books in a Catholic Bible?
Answer: 73
That number looks like a much nicer number.

Now, let’s do the math…
What’s the difference between 73 and 66?
Answer: 7

So…what the diference between the Catholic Bible and the Protestant Bible?
Answer: Perfection.
 
This has occurred to me before. I don’t think you’ll win many arguments with Protestants that way, though 😉

Yeah, I’d thought of it, too. While you’re correct that you won’t win many arguments with fundamentalists this way, I do imagine you’ll give more than a few of them pause while they try to figure out a reason for rejecting the argument, as they’re generally impressed with such numerological arguments. (I know. I used to be one – a Protestant evangelical, that is, not a numerological argument 🙂 )

Since I don’t believe the argument myself, it would be disingenuous of me to actually use it. However, the iconoclast in me often fantasizes about trying.

I almost added this onto another thread about what books are in the Bible. But it seemed a little off the topic from where that discussion was headed so I decided to start a separate thread. I doubted that the thought was original to me, but I don’t remember ever hearing or seeing it used.

I love that so many Protestants have awe and respect for the Bible as the Word of God. But I don’t understand how the number 66 gets by without comment. The Word of God should be perfect–and 66 isn’t perfect.

Are there any Protestants who ever question the number of books in their Bible being such an imperfect number as 66? How do you justify that God would use that number for books in His Holy Word?
 
Protestants pick and choose what they feel like believing that day. If they don’t like it they will ignore it, like St. John 6.

Now if it was anti-Catholic you know they’d spew it out like there was no tommorrow!😉
 
Isn’t 3 a good number also? So 7 and 3 are good, and 6 is bad–and it’s there twice.

Yes! The Holy Trinity!
Anyone out there able to expand on the meaning of numbers in the Biblical language?

Another thought on numbers: many people think of religion as a touchy-feely thing with no right or wrong answers, but God created math and logic. Math allows no room for “moral relative” thinking. There may be more than one way to solve a math problem, but answers are clearly right or wrong.
 
:clapping: that’s really funny. 😃 i never noticed that before. i wonder if half of protestants even know why we have seven extra books.
 
Personally, it has occurred to me that the 66 books in the protestant bible and the number 666 both mean incomplete.

This is not researched and I am not theologically equipped to debate this, but Catholics anyway agree that Catholicism alone posesses the fullness of the Christian faith, making all other Christian sects imperfect or incomplete. What a perfect scheme of the devil to divide Christianity up like this. Not to mention the fighting and hatred being slinged at one another!! Christianity has little or no credibility in the secular world as a definitive moral authority since it can’t even agree with itself. Meanwhile Satan is :rotfl: Using this logic, the number could be 6666666…,

I know this dosn’t agree with the fact that Revelation says that 666 will be the name of a man, but still. :hmmm:

OF COURSE, I am NOT trying to say that all Protestants are knowingly working for the antichrist!! NO, NO NO. So, please don’t get me wrong. However, IMO, anyone deliberately working to bring down or attack the Catholic Church, and bring people out of her, is working against Christ.

Does this make sense to anyone? I don’t want to say too much, because I don’t want to offend anyone. Plus, again, it’s just a thought–not a well thought out and researched theory.
