80% of Mormon women between 18-30 are inactive

"Between the two Sunday sessions of the 178th Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the three women named Saturday as new leaders in the church’s Young Women organization described their approach and priorities regarding the 554,600 Mormon girls between 12 and 18 years old in 170 countries.
When asked how they planned to cope with the fact that as many as 80 percent of the single Mormon women between 18 and 30 are no longer active in the LDS Church, Elaine Dalton, Young Women president, said: “That is the question of the day . . . I don’t know that we have all the answers right now.”
Dalton said she and her two counselors plan to “reach out and strengthen those young women . . . to help them understand who they are and the divine mission they have on earth.”

I’ve seen Mormons say they are more faithful than Catholics. Looks like it is about the same to me.

this is wonderful news.

not surpriseing to me, though, because i believe that women all over are having big problems with what they perceive as patriarchal religious systems keeping them barefoot and pregnant. this includes in particular the Catholic Church which gets a lot of femiinist criticism because of the all male preisthood.

from what little i have lerned about mormon religion the past few months, the mormon religion is particularly bad in this area, pushing girls and boys to marry young, have lots of babies early, and even getting into the salvation realm by connecting the woman’s eternal life to her marriage and faithfulness to her husband. i’ve met a few mormon girls lately who are trying to be good mormons, but i’ve got to say they looked to me stressed and unhappy. so i am assuming that they ARE unhappy, and am looking for times and places to start pointing out to them the vast superiourty of the CAtholic faith which teaches the truth that women and men are equal in every way (though with differeing roles) and that a woman doen’st need a man to get into heaven.

It is a lot of things. I was a single inactive Mormon for 5 years of my life. Honestly, there is no where in the Mormon church for a single woman. The focus of the entire religion is on families. Their doctrine is such that a person is blessed by God if they have a family. Which yes, that is true. The only thing is, Mormons also teach that if God isn’t blessing, then there is something wrong with you. You, personally, are doing or not doing or thinking or not thinking or being or not being something. So a lot of single Mormon women spend their lives wringing their hands and hearts, trying to guess at what it is that is keeping God from giving them the blessings of a family.

The reality is, there is a small population of Mormons. And Mormon women want the perfect man, the one that will get them to being an eternal wife of a god. Many women will turn down relationships and proposals because the man is not “worthy”. So, they end up single.

In my case, I didn’t want the Mormon lifestyle, I grew up in it and found it stifling. The thought of living that way for my entire life did nothing but **** me off.
