I know when you say a novena it is usually for nine days. I was wondering why the number of days are 9 opposed to any other number?

The word NOVENA comes from the latin root of “novem” meaning “nine each” literally…

It does come from the 9 days of prayer in the upper room…

Thanks so much for the answers. I knew there would be a good reason for it.😃

In German ‘nein’ means ‘no’ I hope that’s not why they picked that number!😛

Guess #1 Three is the number of The Trinity. 3 times 3 = nine

Guess #2 There are nine choirs of Angels

And I just checked a new book I bought, Favorite Catholic Novenas For All Occasions, Regina Press. “The number nine recalls the nine days Mary and the disciples waited together in prayer between the Ascension and Pentacost”.👍
