What does this mean?

“In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death.”

Does this mean that Mary will deliver our souls from death? Isn’t this putting Mary in Jesus’s place?
 
It’s about what she’s praying for , and keep in mind who she’s praying to and the fact that she’s praying and not delivering salvation through any power of her own.
 
The key words in this passages are “by your prayers” which recognize the power of Mary’s intercession.
Mary conceived the Living God who remains the source of all life. God is God. There is no other. He is eternal.
Jesus is the Son of Mary. He is our Salvation. Her yes to God, her willing obedience to the God’s plan for her life makes our salvation possible.
Mary is not God. We honor her as the mother of our Savior and the Mother of the Church. We honor her because Our Lord honored His mother while on earth. At the cross He gave her into the care of John which we as Catholics recognize as His giving her to each of us as our Mother to love and cherish as He did.
We can say that Mary conceived the Living God because we believe in only one God, and we believe that Jesus is God.
