I think Christians tend to come off as too harsh when talking about it.

Not this priest however.

He explained it to the teenagers at this event so beautifully and with no harsh judgment. Which is what we need to do IMO

Forgive me if someone shared this link before, I just watched it recently 🙂 watch the whole video, not like 10 minutes. Because he took his time explaining it in the way the youths there could understand and accept

Is this priest homosexual?
I’m sensing he is, so wondering if he’s speaking from personal experience. (Beyond what he says about his brother having same-sex attraction, I mean).
I feel like his close friend at the 20-min mark was trying to tell the priest that he’s attracted to him.

*So great *that he’s telling the teens that they are “not on the outside” if they have same-sex attraction. The anecdote he gives starting at the 38 minute mark reminds me of what Cardinal Schonborn says about embracing “the positive elements” of same-sex relationships.
And…what he says about accepting those with SS-attraction with “compassion, respect, and love”…that will do a lot of good for the kids he’s talking to.

He says he “can’t wait for the church to canonize the first known homosexual man or woman”. I wonder if they already have; maybe there have been many.

LOL re the zombie/Walking Dead line! Ha! He’s funny. He should do stand-up.
I guess he kinda is…

Thanks for posting!

.
Isn’t the close friend his brother? He mentioned close friend and then later on his brother. They’re both the same person, he just mentioned his identity at the end for dramatic purposes (he said the close friend and him were at the lake superior, then later on he said something along the lines of ‘when my brother told me he’s gay at lake superior’) so it’s the same person

he has talked about dating experiences with women in other talks (before he became a priest, obviously!)

he has an insane level of empathy which I feel is so necessary for teens who are considering “coming home” to the church.

No he’s not homosexual. At minute 28 Father Mike says he’s attracted to women. And as Lea101 says, he’s referred to dating women in other talks.

The key word here is “known”. A person who, as Father says “dedicated their lives to living chastely”. Although there could well be saints who were homosexual but never acknowledged it. The point about knowing if a saint was same sex attracted is they would be a great patron for those still struggling here on earth.

He is very engaging, I always enjoy his talks, even though he’s speaking to a much younger audience 🙂

Be careful not to separate Jesus from His Church. The Catholic Church of course was founded by Jesus. It is more accurate to say that the Catholic Church puts forth Jesus’ teaching on what marriage is.
Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one’? So they are no longer two but one.

Thanks for sharing, a good talk.

We should all just ignore the ad hominem claims on his sexuality.

I watched the whole talk, thanks Lea101 for sharing it. 🙂

He made a very good point of NOT singling out those with SSA as an outside group that needs to be “tolerated” or not, placing the teachings on SSA in the context of Catholic teaching about sex in general, and certainly he appeared to be quite aware that there must be members of the audience who do have SSA.

I got the feeling that his brother is or was an “active homosexual” at some point, as he mentioned the absurdity of people who claim that if you don’t accept every action of theirs, you must not love them, or even hate them.

However, I think I should point out that the speaker’s situation is far from unique. I know that many on CAF are in this situation, they have a family member or friend who has SSA and they DO love them even if they would not agree with acting out the SSA. Although many on the “gay rights” side deny this is possible.

At most it was an unwarranted suspicion. An ad hominem fallacy is not, as many seem to think, simply an insult or derogatory comment. It is attempting to refute an argument based merely on the personal traits of the other person. In this case DaddyGirl didn’t even claim that Fr. Mike is homosexual, she merely asked if he was.
