I am participating in an anonymous Secret Santa this year. The person I am supposed to give gifts to is an agnostic and is in many ways living a lifestyle quite contrary to our church teachings.

That said, this person expressed interest in spirituality and Catholic history. I spoke to them and found out they would be open to a book about the church and love to read.

So if anyone can give me some ideas that would be great. We are talking about someone whose lifestyle would be directly challenged by the church, so I think something that doesn’t come off as harsh would be good–something that talks about interested charisms or history or art or saints…I am just a Secret Santa, not in a position to radically change this person’s life, and I want to send a kind message. I can only plant seeds.

Please, if you have an idea, let me know. I do have a budget so paperback is best.

Thanks!

Eucharistic Miracles by Joan Carroll Cruz.

There is another similar book published by one of the other catalogs.

The Lamb’s Supper by Scott Hahn will blow their mind without condemning them 😃

As a Catholic Catechist [teacher] with nearly 30 years of experience, including 3 years with RCIA, I discovered that RCIA because of its usual time constraints is simply unable to do much more but introduce our 2,000 year old Catholic Faith.

Now retired I have authored a book as a supplement to What RCIA begins. My book is a broad summary of our Catholic beliefs, with an emphasis on providing the evidence of our beliefs and practices. It’s easy to read and logical in the sequence of the chapters, and its based on my FREE of all cost home study course: Building Blocks of our Catholic Faith, with carefully chosen Lessons from it.

It’s intended to answer most of the common questions we face in sharing our beautiful Catholic Faith

Thanks for your replies everyone. I am considering all of these.

I had thought about a life story of a saint, but it may be too specific.

Still, I am open to any and all ideas until I decide for sure.

There’s a series of three books by Michael Giesler which are written as works of historical fiction on life in the early Church. The names of the books are Junia, Marcus, and Grain of Wheat. They would give a very wonderful, engaging introduction to the faith of the early Church. I think they would make the perfect gift, because they aren’t too high-minded and theological, they are very engaging, and true to the history of the Church. They may spark your friend’s curiosity to learn more about real men and women who, like the characters in the book lost their lives for their faith. 🙂 If you only want to buy one, Junia is my personal favorite, but they are all good!

Once again I recommend my book, NOT because its my book, but because I wrote it for Lapsed Catholics, recent RCIA folks and anyone trying to get a grip on what we Catholics believe and practice and WHY we do:)
