I’m a Catholic, and my friend is an Orthodox. He invites me often to attend Orthodox mass and services. I’m an active goer to the Catholic church, on Sundays and often other days too. I have attended Orthodox mass for about two or three times already… Am I allowed to participate in an Orthodox mass as well? Does the Catholic Church allow this?

I believe that a Catholic can participate in the Orthodox “Mass” (what do they call it) when the Catholic cannot otherwise get a Catholic Mass. The problem is the Orthodox won’t allow Catholics to partake of the Orthodox “Mass”. So out of respect, I wouldn’t.

I’m not receiving sacraments… I just listen to the priest.

Oh, well I don’t see any problem with it as long as you know that you should go to a Catholic Mass to fulfill your obligation.

orthodox services are long & boring

just my opinion

i am not judging the validity of content therein…

the icons are beautiful to look at (for 15 minutes) 😉

You are welcome to attend our services [ the Divine Liturgy ] however as you are not Orthodox please don’t go forward to receive the Eucharist - you may well find that someone gives you a small piece of bread after Communion. It’s perfectly OK to eat this - it’s called antidoron and is blessed but not consecrated.

You are very welcome at the end of Liturgy when people go up to 'kiss the Cross ’ to join them .

Having said this - the Catholic Church does expect , indeed states, that you have an obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and unless you are in an area where it is physically impossible to attend Mass you should attend the Catholic Church, though this can be at the anticipated Sunday Mass [ commonly called the Vigil Mass ] on Saturday evening or any of the Masses during the day on Sunday

I’m not receiving Eucharist. I just stand there and listen. 🙂 Thank you for you answer.

Yes but know you must still attend a proper Catholic service, and that it may be possible some of the teaching may be dangerous and possibly slanderous (some Orthodox hate us). But they do have valid priesthood and sacraments, but don’t take any from them unless in dire need.
