Chapter II. Abstinence:
For brothers and sisters all Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are days of abstinence (that is, meatless days) unless directed otherwise by a physician. Meat is allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Except for Sundays and Solemnities, brothers and sisters are to eat but two meals daily throughout the year unless advised otherwise by a physician. However, a third, small “bite to eat” of beverage and solid food may be taken if needed at one other time during the day. Beverages such as fruit juice, milk, coffee, tea and so on may be taken at any time between meals. Alcohol may not be taken at any time.
Except for Sundays and Solemnities, between meal snacks of solid food should be avoided.
At all times, brothers and sisters should be temperate in eating and drinking.
Wherever possible brothers and sisters should eat food they have grown and prepared themselves. If this is not possible eat foods that have been grown within your local area. If local foodstuffs are not available avoid the purchase of foods that have been transported from outside your own country. Industrial processed and manufactured foods should be avoided at all times.
The purchase of commercially cooked, prepared or ready to eat foods to be consumed outside the home should be avoided (‘fast food’, packaged snack foods, sweets, restaurant meals & etc) unless pressing circumstances leave no other choice. If such a purchase is to be made outside the home select the most natural and nutritious choice available.
For the sake of hospitality, brothers and sisters may eat small, between meal snacks if they are entertaining guests or if they are guests in the homes of others
When eating with others in a group setting, brothers and sisters should endeavor to allow others to choose their foods first for the sake of penance as long as this practice can be kept hidden and doesn’t attract attention.
Travellers while in transit to their destinations and those who are ill, weak, pregnant, or breastfeeding are exempt from following the abstinence provisions of this Rule.
Before and after meals, let the brothers and sisters reverently say either their regular meal prayer, or the Lord’s prayer once, and let all give thanks to God. If they forget or if they are fasting completely from food, they are to say three Our Father’s. These prayers may be prayed out loud or silently with head bowed unless to do so would cause offence.

Work is continuing on the Rule as the Holy Spirit+ continues to guide and inspire me.

I am continuing to pray and to read and study and I thought I would share this link with you…

As to one other point I find myself wondering about: - a number of religious congregations pray the fifteen decade Rosary exclusively and go so far as to specifically mention it in their Rule. So what is so wrong with the twenty decade Rosary apart from the fact that making one in knotted cord is likely to increase one’s need to confess due to all the tangles 🙂

K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Sweetie 🙂 I live with an illness and this morning it was the worst struggle to pray Lauds. Normally I love Lauds, but this morning I got lost and kept missing my place because I couldn’t concentrate properly. It was then that I heard that whisper in my heart again,- ‘simplicity’.

I am presently writing the section of the Rule that is about prayer and so far all I’ve done is manage to make it far too complicated. Praying the Office is stunning and wonderful, but who can afford to buy the full Liturgy of the Hours let alone find one for sale somewhere! Because I have been Affiliated with the Little Company of Mary for some years now I like to use the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary which has the great advantage of being able to be carried in a pocket with ease. With that and my pocket psalter which is laid out according to Liturgy of the Hours I find I manage quite well. But not this morning (sigh) :bighanky:

Our Lord+ didn’t set off with an armload of books to pray and I don’t think a regular and loving prayer life should depend on being able being able to focus properly and read words on a page.
Please pray for me as I continue to work on this :gopray2:

Prayer. My thoughts and prayers have been immersed in prayer. I have been studying about prayer, I have been eating and sleeping prayer and with God’s grace I’m getting somewhere with it all. Lord+ ever gift me the grace of patience and teach me to rest in Thee.
The one stop pocket sized prayerbook is definitely the answer for any busy Religious. Yesterday I said Tierce in a slow supermarket queue which was a much better way to spend the time than sighing and shifting from foot to foot like other folk around me were doing. My prayerbook was right there in my pocket all ready and waiting for me which was wonderful.
The one problem which I had was that I have this wonderful collection of vintage prayerbooks and missals anything up to a hundred years old, and while I love to pray with them I couldn’t exactly recommend that any new postulant go hunting for one because they aren’t that easy to come by. Then to my absolute joy I found the Catholic Publications Centre here in New Zealand and they are literally the answer to my prayer. They print basic, no frills, cheaply priced Mass & Psalm books that have the Prayers for the Hours in a section at the back. God+ be praised, O my God+ be praised forever!!!
These prayerbooks are cheap enough in price that I could very readily keep a couple about my person to give away at need. 😃 😃 😃

If nothing else this Lent has taught me that I’m still trying to be far too complicated when it comes to writing a Rule. The great half written Rule has been cast out from the website and now I’m beginning again.

Simplicity …
