A final question--no discussion--on Medjugorje?

**Hmm? How am I dragging in irrelevancies? I’m trying to present the topics the book gave without violating any copyrights, which leaves me rather limited as to what I could discuss. I don’t mind if other apparitions are discussed–I don’t feel it hijacks the thread at all.

I’m getting the feeling you’re getting impatient just because my style of discussion seems limited. It IS limited. The limitation comes from being a newbie though I was here in CAF for a long while and I’m still new to forums as a medium and my mind often chokes on how to present material or give a response.

If you wish to discuss apparitions which are approved then start a new thread but you are way off the topic in your original post. When you start a thread on a specific topic you must stick to that or begin a new thread if you want to debate something different.

How am I off-topic? I’m -trying- to discuss the topics in the book and I’m having trouble doing so when what questions to ask for each topic become a stalemate rather than a reality. I feel a lack of generosity here, so I’ll just ask the moderator to close this topic. The least you could’ve done is asked me for the Table of Contents or what topics are introduced in the book and based on what I posted, you could’ve helped me out by asking some questions for my own ponderance or for everyone to discuss.

In your OP you bring up the evils of divorce and how to raise children but I haven’t seen any comments by you after that on these two topics. You don’t need to quote from a Medjogorie book to discuss these subjects. You also provide a link to a site about apparitions. What has that got to do with divorce and how to raise children?

we are still waiting for specific citations from some book OP read about marriage and divorce, so we can get back on the discussion. If those are not forthcoming the thread should be closed.

Puzzleannie, I cannot give citations from the Medjujorge book, because the copyright forbids that. I have to paraphrase everything I want to cite and that’s difficult to do. Its like I have to translate it so even -I- understand it.

Thistle, I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. There are a few topics in the book, 2 of which is the evils of divorce and how to raise children. Would you like me to give you the list of topics the book gives and what viewpoint it spells out?

The Apparitions link was something I gave to help defuse an argument that was going on here. It had little to none in the way of any importance in ths Medjujorge book thread.

I think “A Friend of Medjugorje” is the pen name of Terry Colafrancesco, who runs the weird Medjugorje-promoting organization Caritas in Birmingham, Alabama; St. James Publishing is his own company, too, the publishing arm of Caritas.

Okay.

Let’s focus on the issue of divorce and child rearing.

I applaud :clapping: Seremina for going so far out of her way to avoid even the hint of promoting an unapproved private revelation in compliance with CAF’s Banned Topic Policy and I am leaving this thread open for the discussion on divorce and childrearing that she is seeking.
If she wishes to paraphrase the book she has that is also fine and can act as a basis for your discussions.

I will, however, be monitoring this thread and any posts that get off into a debate on Medjugorje will disappear without notice.

You guys enjoy your discussion.
Your servant in Christ,
MF

There must be grounds for divorce in some cases, such as mine: a husband who declares he is going to continue having sex with multiple partners because he wants to explore his sexuality. I do NOT want my children, neither my sons nor my daughter, to think that this is what marriage is. It wasn’t in the wedding vows that we both took (the vow to forsake all others). I cannot see how God would want this marriage to continue, particularly since staying in it would indicate my silent approval of the shenanagins going on. What message about marriage and family would I be passing on to my kids in that case? Certainly not a Catholic one! In any case, my cradle-Catholic husband has become an atheist, and thinks he is doing nothing wrong, merely making a lifestyle choice.

There may be many reasons for a separation or civil divorce so that you and your children no longer lived with your husband but if the marriage (to your present husband) was a valid marriage in the eyes of the Church then as a Catholic you would not be able to remarry. If there were grounds for an annulment then, of course, if granted, you would be free to remarry because your first marriage would be deemed to have not been valid when entered into. However, if the Church deemed it to have been valid then you would not be able to remarry.
Anything that happens after you are married (e.g. your husband’s infidelity) are not grounds for annulment. It is the circumstances before you are married which are investigated.

I would not want this post to discourage the poster from pursuing an annulment in her case if she truly feels her marriage was never sacremental.

Just a hypothetical ( I am absolutely NOT an expert on the annulment process); if a man enters a marriage with the idea in the back of his mind that “exploring his sexuality” is in his future (i.e. adultry), this just may indeed disqualify the marriage as being sacremental from the get go.

I’m no expert either. I was trying to generalise. Its up to a tribunal to decide on such things. I was just trying to make the point that what happens after the marriage is not a ground for annulment. Whether a spouse becomes unfaithful, abusive to children or whatever this is not what is taken into account when considering anulments. It is the circumstances before the marriage which are looked at.
Also how could you know the mind of the man before the marriage?

I use this post to illustrate a point to some of you. Yor cannot persue knowledge through the asking of only selected questions. If this forum is truly about answers then all questions in relation to God and His subject, in this case Catholisism, should be addressed.

Personally I feel disappointed that Medjugoroie cannot now be discussed. You should be able to ask any question you wish and have a balanced discussion, it is those you want to subvert and destroy the discussion on Medjogurie that will cause trouble and therefore have the thread closed.

People cause conflict. If there are those causing problems in topic discussions, suspend those individuals from the discussion, do not close the topic.
