I have never started a thread asking for prayer on Catholic Answers, but feel strongly about it right now.

A friend of mine, whom I have know for about 4 years, has had a very difficult few years. She is in her 40’s, has two children, a daughter 18 and a son 9. She had ovarian cancer and tumor in her uterus which were found at a very early stage and had a total hysterectomy last November. They were looking forward to a big Disney vacation over Christmas break. She was still feeling pretty bad from the surgery, but went anyway… and two days before they left she found out that her husband had been having casual sex for years. She was, of course, shocked and devastated. She thought he was a good Christian man and they had been married for over 20 years. He was not apologetic and said he couldn’t understand why she was upset, it was “just sex” and didn’t mean anything. So they went on this vacation she had been looking so forward to, with a shattered heart, but had to hide it from the children so that they could at least have a good vacation. When her daughter found out, the husband began treating his daughter very badly so that she had to move in with family out of state. My friend planned to move across the country with her son to live with her sister and get started in a new life, as soon as the school year ended.

She and her son moved a few months ago. Apparently she was in the hospital for 7 1/2 weeks and is now in kidney failure. Thank God her sister is at her side. She is not giving up hope and is asking for prayers because her previous doctors seemed to think there was a chance her kidneys could recover. I cannot imagine what she is going through, and I hate to think of her son and daughter losing her. I can’t imagine the kind of pain my friend is endouring.

I wouldn’t normally start a thread asking for prayers, but I know the wonderful people on this site will pray for Amy.

Thanks. She just sent me her first email tonight since she moved a few months ago, I have been waiting to hear from her, little did I know she was busy in the hospital with failing kidneys, and that is why she hasn’t had time to contact me.

I know she will receive much grace and strength from your prayers

Dear Lord,

Please assist Amy, her children and her husband. Help them in health, physical and spiritual. Bless them and keep them safe.

Single moms have a tough enough job without being sick. I will keep Amy in my prayers.

Oh my. My eyes started welling up and my throat got all thick. That poor woman - but what a fighter! She can beat this, and she is lucky to have a concerned friend such as yourself.

We hope and pray for a total recovery for her bodily and spiritually. Lord, hear our Prayer.

I am the kind of friend who likes to “be there” so I felt quite helpless knowing she just moved across the country! Prayer is the biggest help anyway.

It never ceases to amaze me how much suffering good people are dealt; I can only imagine the reward at the end of the journey will be that much sweeter - of course I will pray for your friend Amy and her family

The one consolation to mothers who leave their young children behind after a valiant battle is that they can be there in an even greater, although hidden way as they intercede for their children from heaven. Let’s hope and pray that Amy can be here in a physically present way for her children, for a long long time. Lord hear our prayer
