A friend of mine is claiming the Bible and Christianity teaches extra-terrestrial life...help?

This is going to sound like a weird question, but this is something which keeps coming up and which has stumped me.

This friend of mine has claimed on several occasions that the Bible’s teaching on angels and on other matters refers not to a divine being but an alien culture and lifeform which visited Earth and specifically to some individuals. In particular he cites a Biblical passage in volving a chariot with two sets of wheels, mentioned in the Kethuvim (Prophets). His theary is that this is a spaceship.

He’s also shown me booklets where there are depictions of angels on gold discs, which he cites as proof of alien technology.

One of his most far-fetched claims so far is that the Ark of Noah was built on the orders of alien visitors in response to a natural disaster.

I’m likely dealing with a crackpot conspiracy theorist here, but is there any official Church teaching regarding aliens and extra-terrestrial life?

The passage he is referring to is Ezekiel 1, the famous vision of a chariot. You can look at any standard commentary to disabuse him of his spaceship theories.

The basic theory he is claiming is one popularized by Erich von Däniken in his book Chariots of the Gods. There must be hundreds of websites and books debunking von Däniken. I know of no scientist who takes him seriously.

We really should establish whether there is intelligent life HERE! Sometimes I have my doubts about that!:rolleyes:
 
I think he has been watching to many “Ancient Aliens” shows on the History Channel:D

Yes: it’s fairly common: I read Von Daniken (Chariot of the Gods) when I was a kid and believed it for a few weeks.

After a few weeks it gets kinda daft!

Fairly recently Pope Benedikt XVI said something to the effect that there could be life on other planets.
 
There is no evidence whatsoever that there are aliens, right now. Nothing.
