Seriously, how can I find a good Catholic Study Bible? With a good translation, good theological and devotional footnotes, and well bound?

I really don’t like the NAB, and the reading guides and footnotes for “The Catholic Study Bible” (the big blue one) are all historical criticism – the kind of junk that bores me to tears and probably messes with people’s faith too. 😦

My dream, my ideal: the complete Navarre Bible, perhaps w/o the Vulgate and with smaller type for the footnotes to make room, in one single volume, leatherbound. The Navarre commentary is so good, so beautiful, so edifying. Man, I wouldn’t need anything else except a Vulgate and Douay for reference. 👍

Is there anything like that out there? Help?

Maybe I will win the lottery and then publish it myself.

I’m with you. Probably your best bet is to make due with the current Navarre configuration until something more managable comes along. I don’t know of anything else coming down the pike, and I try to stay on top of this kind of thing.

The Ignatius Study Bibles are a good alternative, but they too are still in an incomplete form. In fact, since the *Corinthians * volume has come out, the issuing of subsequent volumes has really come to a standstill.

I, personally, like the Douay Reims with the Haddock commentary.

Is the Haddock published in any form besides those two rather large red volumes? I love that commentary too.

I myself love the NAB translation. I prefer it because that is the translation used in the mass and liturgy. If it is good enough for the Church, it is good enough for me . . . 😃

But, having said that - If you do not care for the NAB I have heard good things about the Ignatius Bible and Jerusalem Bible.

Good luck with your search!! Reading the Lord’s word is always a blessing, even with a less favored translation. 😛

I do not believe so, but it has a lot of good information that is in line with Catholic teaching, as far as I know.
