A Humility Prayer for Children

My children have begun to argue more and more and so I thought it was time for them to pray the Litany of Humility, one of my favorites. The only problem is the words are too big for them to understand them at this time. So I am looking for a prayer of humility for children. I like the lay out of the Litany because those little lines pop into my head when something comes up that bothers me like, “From the desire of being preferred, deliver me, Jesus.”

Hello there you! I hope you and yours are well.

I don’t know of a specific prayer for humility for children. Maybe you would like to compose your own prayer for them to say.

I think St Francis’ Prayer for Peace is beautiful for teaching children humility and thinking of the other person.

Lord, make me an channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred . . . may I bring your love
Where there is injury . . . pardon
Where there is darkness . . . light
Where there is sadness . . .joy
Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled . . .as to console
To be understood . . .as to understand,
To be loved . . . as to love
For it is in giving . . .that we receive,
It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned,
It is in dying . . .that we are born to eternal life

I think sometimes children argue and fight when they are learning to get along together, so don’t worry about it too much Jenlyn. I used to argue and fight with my brother when we were kids and now we are very close friends.

While this prayer isn’t a litany, it is for children:

Infant Jesus, meek and mild
Pity me, a little child.
Make me humble as thou art.
Win they love and praise thy heart. Amen.

(That’s from memories of my childhood, and I can’t remember if the word was really “win” or maybe something else.)
