This is a recent TV interview between a well known Islamic cleric and a female TV host, that cleric was mocking the female host to wear the veil while off the air he has no problem talking to her without hijab (veil), not to mention that he got paid to come on the show in the first place!

That was a good courage by the female host exposing his hypocrisy to the public…

Truly an interesting vid. She evidenced quite a bit of feminine righteous indignation.

The women of Islam need to reist en masse against the inequalities perpetrated on them, methinks.

The veil is an interesting question. Not only for Islam. But for Catholicism as well.

If a veil, then it must be 100 % voluntary. Not a law I should think…

Interesting that she said she would wear the veil for Allah… but not for the Cleric.

I am curious about what exactly the Islamic sriptures regarding the veil for women says.

Does it *demand *that women wear the veil? Under what circumstances?

It seems quite apparent. that the host is representative of a growing body of women that are really angry with the way their Faith is currently inflicted on them.

There is a passage in the Quran regarding the “veil” - but - it only states it should be drawn over their “bosoms”.
And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.
( سورة النور , An-Noor, Chapter #24, Verse #31)

The way I read and understand that verse is saying trow a veil over the bosoms, like one would throw a shawl over their shoulders in over to cover their back and front.

Yes… So from whence comes the full ‘Burka?’ Perhaps a male culture run riot?

Haha, that hypocrite! Sometimes, unlike us Catholics, some Muslims fail to exemplify the highest ideals of their religion!

Interesting. Makes me wonder how the head cover is now so much prevalent.

Like nuns:p

The verse which shown by sister in Christ jakasaki is the one which mainstream Muslims follow (covers the hair without the face), however, the conservative Muslims also follow (33:59) shown below, which states that the idea of the veil is to make the woman unknown to strangers, so ideally to cover both the hair and the face the Burka is used.

(Quran 33:59):
“SHAKIR: O Prophet! say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers that they let down upon them their over-garments; this will be more proper, that they may be known, and thus they will not be given trouble; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”
ياأيها النبي قل لأزواجك وبناتك ونساء المؤمنين يدنين عليهن من جلابيبهن ذلك أدنى أن يعرفن فلا يؤذين وكان الله غفورا رحيما
(E).

I agree with** Kaninchen** that some men should also be veild (aka blindfolded) since it seems they cannot control themselves. 😛
