I have been wondering recently if a person should be worried if they are not undergoing some kind of hardship / chastisement.
Hebrews 12:6
In his book “The Dogmas of Hell,” Fr. Schouppe writes:
Hebrews 12:6
We know that God chastises people in order to purify them an prepare them for salvation, and also to warn them as they move away from Him. The greatest saints often suffer the greatest chastisements. (i.e. Mother Theresa and her Dark Night of the Soul.) Does it not stand to reason, then, that a person who does not suffer chastisements is not on the path to God?For whom the Lord loveth, he chastiseth; and he scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
In his book “The Dogmas of Hell,” Fr. Schouppe writes:
So, what is a person to make of it if he lives a trouble-free life? Many saints aver that if a mortal sinner is prospering and doing well and living relatively free of troubles, he has been abandoned by Almighty God and that God is allowing him some pleasures while in this life, because that person is going to spend eternity in Hell.
