I am working and living in a town more than 11 hours from my family and my boyfriend for 21 months. I have a successfull career . I am alone fellow Christians. And I am afraid of going into depression. My boyfriend and I plan to marry, but he says that he’ll only ask me once I am back home, that asking me now is of no use. My parents, bothers and sister are so very dear to me, and I miss them every single second of the day. I am searching for work nearer to home, but so far nothing has come through. Should I resign and go back. I am not happy here anymore, work was the reason I moved here and now I do not want to get up in the morning. Am I being ungrateful? What do I need to do?

You poor thing! I spent 9 months away from home too, in Moscow, & I know how hard & lonely it can be.
If you’re really not happy there then I would suggest you look into finding something closer to home. You may not find anything straight away, but you could start working on it… and maybe that would start to make you feel better!
Do you truly think that this situation is triggering serious depression? From your description, that you find it hard even to get out of bed in the morning it sounds like maybe this is the case. I hope that if so, you will be able to get some help & support out there. You could make regular phone calls home to cheer yourself up… or go for a nice long walk, pray a lot, maybe join something like a choir (that’s what I did!) or anything that makes you feel ‘part of things’. Try to (despite how you’re feeling) get out there a bit & make friends (maybe a church-related activity would provide opportunities?) & make the most of your time there. And take good care of yourself physically of course… it all helps 🙂

If it’s really serious depression then you might need to speak to a doctor about it… don’t hesitate to get help 👍

Blue Skies, thank you so much for replying. After reading your reply I think that depression is maybe too a harsh word to use 🙂 I realised last night while praying with my boyfriend over the phone( it sounds strange, but we do that sometimes, pray together over the phone) that I really need to get out more. I will be going to some aerobic (taebo) excersies tonight after work, and then Wednesdays we have a prayer evening at church ( I will be the youngest there, but yeah it’s worth trying. Thanks you agin 😃

Hi Hello_Blue, you’re welcome! That’s such a good idea about the Taebo classes, I think just doing some exercise can help so much if you’re feeling a bit down & anxious. I hope you manage to settle in soon and make some good friends, I’m sure God will send you some :). And that should make all the difference to how much you enjoy your time there.
