I just watched a lovely family movie on Netflix, The Boxcar Children. It was just really sweet. I loved the original book and the movie followed the story faithfully. Not spectacular animation but charming, with beautiful, vividly colored scenery.
The story is every child’s adventure (at least mine) – four kids who are on their own, living in a boxcar in the woods, meeting challenges with intelligence and compassion for one another. Good for all ages. We need more movies like it.

The movie was pretty good, but did you know “The Boxcar Children” is a book? Actually, there is a whole series of books based on the kids and their adventures after their grandfather finds them and takes them in. I think you can still get them on Amazon.

This is good to know as well:thumbsup:

Just as an aside,I do wonder though,if the simplicity of the movies or even the books will be enough for today? All the bells and whistles of current movies and programs,I do have to wonder.

I grew up reading these books in the 1980s. I’ll check out the movie

Well, I sat through it and I found it relaxing. Another reviewer said it was great for her ADHD child.

The premise is fascinating to a child – being on your own, having to meet your needs in the real world without adult help. Haven’t you ever wondered what you would do if a disaster hit and you had to fend for yourself without electricity, cars, etc? Same sort of scenario, but for children.

And everyone is attracted to movies which have devoted family type relationships – wasn’t there a woman who ran away to join the Star Trek cast because she wanted so bad to belong? The Boxcar Children are 4 kids who are determined to support and love one another. It addresses emotional needs which never go out of style.
