Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope this thread gets posted on the right forum cause I really find it hard going around CAF.
For a while now I have been contemplating starting a monthly magazine at my university chaplaincy. A couple of weeks ago, I came across some information I had downloaded some time last year around March; about the Fisherman’s Ring. Then I thought of how good it would have been if I had shared such information with at least my fellow students at the Chaplaincy, and I still think that was the most appropriate time for that particular message.
I know there is a lot involved, and so before I can share the idea with our Chaplain; I am here to ask for ideas on how we can go about this as I am well aware it can’t be a one person thing. I have shared this with a few students and they thing it is a brilliant idea and we hope we can start this September.
We are thinking of a monthly publishing, or at most on a semester basis. We are not yet sure of the exact content, so any ideas are welcome. I know the university communities out there may be different from the ones here, but, also believe certain information would be relevant to all since it is the same faith we share. Otherwise for now, I am writing mainly to ask for possible suggestions for a name to the magazine.
My chaplaincy is named after St. Camillus de Lellis. I had thought of naming the magazine after St. Augustine since he had a lot in common with us during his youth, but then am now a little hesitant because there are quite a number of things named after him especially where we are located. Then I thought of the campus messenger, but then, again I don’t feel it sounds catholic; yet we would really want something that is and sounds Catholic from the word go.
Suggestions for a possible name or anything else are welcome.

If you want to do this right it will take a major time commitment from you and a group.

I edit a professional journal where articles and columns are submitted by potentially thousands of people worldwide, and getting out a quarterly issue is a lot of work. I can’t imagine trying to get out something worthwhile with even two or three articles a month.

Before you start, especially if you think you want to publish monthly, put together a schedule. If you want two articles, three articles, four articles, a month, put together a list for the next year. Will your issues have themes? OK…what is the theme for September, October, etc. What are the three articles you want to publish under that theme? Who will write them? What happens if you don’t receive them in time? (And from my experience with college students, people have good intentions but don’t always follow through. Someone had a paper due or had to study for a test and ran out of time. They were going to work on it over the weekend after the football game but then there was a party they wanted to attend so they didn’t get to the project.)

I would scale back to not more than quarterly but perhaps you can do more. You might also think about something like a blog where you could put in various short items of interest rather than complete articles.

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut, I thing we shall have to start slowly then. But is this thread even in the right place anyway? Please let me know under what subtitle this could fall.
Any suggestions on what we could name the magazine

You might try the Evangelization forum – I think that’s really what the magazine is about, right? Getting the word out about our faith and building it up.

I’m not good at coming up with titles but I’m sure other people will be more creative.

Can you find a couple of – oh, maybe co-conspirators isn’t the right word – a couple of friends who are also excited by this idea and will work with you?
